GAC Russia Expands Eastwards

GAC Russia said it is expanding eastwards with the opening of new branches at Nakhodka and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to meet demand for shipping services as opportunities open up in Far East. According to GAC Russia, this means it is the only ship agent with a presence throughout the interconnected Arctic region and Far East: at Murmansk, Kandalaksha, Sabetta, and now Nakhodka and the capital of the Sakhalin region, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Arkady Podkopaev, GAC Russia’s General Manager, said, “GAC has been active in Russia since 2001 and has built a strong network of offices in the European part of the country. Henderson, Hanes & Associates Opens Doors in Miami

The Miami-based ocean engineering and naval architecture firm of Henderson & Associates, Inc. has merged with Sea3 Systems, Inc. to form Henderson, Hanes & Associates, a full-service engineering firm that brings underwater intervention and project management services to the global marine industry. The new firm, headed by Shawn Henderson, P.E. and Dan Hanes, P.E., both of South Florida, draws on the deep experience base of its founders and specializes in quick turnaround refit and repair projects that may span multiple technical disciplines and trades. Shawn Henderson, P.E., a former Navy Diver who served active duty during the Gulf War and with over 20 years of underwater experience, has spearheaded complex, multifaceted industrial projects around the country.

Flexlife Makes Double Management Appointment

Flexlife, the subsea flexible pipes specialist, has strengthened its management organization with two senior appointments. Simon Hounsome joins Flexlife’s Aberdeen headquarters as integrity and projects director, responsible for the policy, strategy and technical services delivered globally from the firm’s Aberdeen, Newcastle and Houston offices. Mr. Hounsome brings more than 20 years’ oil and gas experience in construction projects and operations management. Most recently he worked at JP Kenny, where he held the position of business manager – operations support.

HB Rentals Makes Key Appointments

Offshore accommodation and workspace specialists HB Rentals, part of Superior Energy Services has made two key appointments to its business operations as it continues to grow in the eastern hemisphere. Brad Hirst and Mike Christie have been appointed sales and marketing manager and technical manager respectively and will operate out of the company’s new purpose built U.K. facility. Mr. Hirst joins HB Rentals with five years experience in the offshore module business holding various commercial positions with the majority of that time spent working in the Middle East.

Bibby Offshore’s newest division, Bibby Remote Intervention Limited (BRIL) Recently increased its workforce following the creation of two new positions. David Howe joins the firm as project director and Robin Longstaff as survey manager. BRIL was established at the end of 2011 to manage the increased market demand for ROV services and has since expanded from support of the company’s own vessels and diver-less intervention services to external clients. Pellerin Energy Group (PEG), an integrated service provided for the oil and gas industry has named Edward “Ed” Godeaux  General Manager of its Water Solutions business unit, announced President Joshua Pellerin. Godeaux joins PEG with more than 18 years of oil and gas experience, specifically in water treatment. He was previously employed at Siemens where he served as a project manager, technical director and ultimately general manager. Greene’s Energy Group (GEG) named David Lang as Mid-Continent Regional Manager for the Testing and Services business unit, announced President Eric Langlinais. Based in Lafayette, La., Lang will provide leadership, direction and operational support to the facility managers in the Bossier City, La.; Kilgore, Texas; Ardmore and Weatherford, Okla.; Ft. Smith and Conway, Ark.; and Dodge City, Kan. facilities. Prior to his new role, Lang was Store Manager for Eagle Oilfield Services, a subsidiary of Greene’s Energy Group.

Dynamic Positioning Takes Control at Sea

Growing reliance on DP technology, a burgeoning global market and the focus on offshore safety means that DP capabilities are no longer optional. The requirement for Dynamic Positioning (DP) capabilities on offshore tonnage is growing in leaps and bounds; directly related to the offshore drilling boom in many parts of the globe. And, says Michael C. Ford, Vice President of Commercial Operations for L-3 Dynamic Positioning and control Systems, “The global market is larger than you would think. For every rig out there, 7 to 8 OSV’s and 2 construction vessels are needed to service that operation. In the next few years, it will involve at least $200 million USD in DP investment.” Ford goes on to say that offshore operations, as a minimum, now demand DP1 capabilities.

OIG Makes Executive Appointments

Offshore Installation Group said that Steve Preston will join the company in the position of Chief Executive Officer and John Smith will join the company as Executive Vice Chairman. Both Steve and John will take up their positions in  March 2012. Preston joins OIG from Heerema Marine Contractors where he has been Executive Vice President, Commercial & Technology for the past 12 years responsible for the Group’s worldwide commercial and business development activities. Steve  brings over 35 years industry experience to OIG with a strong background in commercial negotiations, engineering and project management. Steve is a past President and active board member of the International Marine Contractors  Association.

Brandal Takes Over as CEO of Aker Kvaerner

Martinus Brandal, former Executive Vice President of Aker ASA assumes the role of president and CEO of Aker Kvaerner, succeeding Inge K. Hansen. Hansen joins Aker ASA as a consultant to the group's management. Martinus Brandal joined Aker in the summer of 2004, and has held a number of Board positions at Aker Group companies. He is very familiar with Aker Kvaerner as a result of being a board member of the company and assisting in developing the strategy that the company has followed in the last two years. He will continue to serve as a board member of Aker Yards. Prior to joining Aker, Brandal was in charge of the Process Automation business area of the ABB industrial group and he has extensive international oil and gas experience.
