Faststream Expands Oil and Gas

Global recruitment group Faststream has expanded its presence in the oil and gas industry and is recruiting for the sector from its offices in the UK, U.S., Norway and Singapore. “We have a strong database of candidates, a detailed knowledge of the industry and a team of proven specialist consultants so there is a strong structure behind this expansion”. Faststream will service the market for upstream, midstream and downstream candidates on behalf of clients throughout the world. The group’s headhunting division The Meeting House will undertake specialist oil and gas search assignments.

Pemex to Invest $470M in Oil Technology

Mexico plans to invest $470m in technological development to aid its oil and gas search over the next five years, state-owned energy company Pemex said recently according to a Reuters report. Pemex, which has proven oil reserves to last about nine years, will reportedly put up most of the money, along with funding from state universities and the country's Petroleum Institute. Much of Mexico's possible reserves that could yield decades more oil are deep beneath the Gulf of Mexico. Pemex reportedly has a $12.5b budget for production and exploration this year. Pemex, which by law is the only company allowed to produce or explore for oil and gas in Mexico, has noncommercial cooperation agreements with Petrobras and other companies that seek to share technological know-how and experience.

Gdansk Shipyard Leads WIth Myriad of Conversions/Repairs

Gdansk Shiprepair Yard Remontowa has expanded its formidable reputation with the completion of two RoRo to cableship conversions. Located in Poland, the yard took on its premiere job within this niche in December 2000 when it converted the vessel Prerow, followed by Lodbrog in January 2001. The sisterships, which measure 459 x 66 ft. (140 x 20 m), were built at BEB Mathias - Thesen - Werft in Wiesmar, Germany in 1983 and 1985, respectively. Presently Lodbrog is property of the Danish company, Alcatel Submarine Networks Marine, and Pretow to Luxshipping Co., France. Both vessels will be delivered to the shipowner in October 2001, at which time they will conform their purpose…
