Wintershall: Expanding Offshore Brazil

BASF's oil and gas subsidiary Wintershall  said it would build up its presence in the Brazilian offshore oil sector this year where it won exploration licences in 2018."It is part of our growth course that we are also active in new regions, and Brazil offers great potential," said chief executive Mario Mehren at the company's annual news conference.First results of seismic measurements in three blocks of the Potiguar basin to be operated by Wintershall are expected by mid-2020, he said.Wintershall, which is due to merge with rival DEA in the first half of this year, would also invest in the expansion of gas and oil in its core regions Russia, Norway, Argentina, the Middle East and Germany, he said. (Reuters reporting by Vera Eckert, editing by Riham Alkousaa)

Elf Makes Second Gulf Of Mexico Discovery

French oil company Elf Aquitaine has announced its U.S. oil and gas subsidiary Elf Exploration Inc. made its second deep offshore oil discovery in the Gulf of Mexico this year. Elf officials said workers made the find at the Matterhorn well in the Mississippi Canyon Block 243, in which Elf Exploration Inc. has a 100 percent working interest. A Global Marine Celtic Sea semi-submersible vessel had drilled the well to a depth of 8,165 ft. and found 370 gross ft. of oil reservoirs in two zones, officials added. "Production tests showed a daily flow rate of 6,640 barrels of good quality oil as well as associated gas." The Matterhorn discovery follows Elf's March find at the Anconcagua prospect in Mississippi Canyon Block 305.

GlobalSantaFe Elects New CEO

GlobalSantaFe Corporation announced that its board of directors has elected Jon A. Marshall as president and chief executive officer of the company. In addition, Mr. Marshall was elected a director at the company's annual meeting of shareholders. Mr. Marshall, who previously held the title of chief operating officer, succeeds C. Stedman "Sted" Garber, Jr., who, earlier this year, announced his intention to retire from his position as president, chief executive officer and a director. Marshall joined the company in 1979 and has held numerous operational and management roles over his 24-year career. In 1992, he became president of Applied Drilling Technology Inc. (ADTI), the company's turnkey drilling service subsidiary and Challenger Minerals Inc.
