New Dual Use Piracy Barrier Launched

Guardian Greenwater

Guardian Maritime launched Guardian Greenwater, a new product that was developed to deal with the issue of greenwater on-board deck following turbulent weather conditions, but also serves as piracy barrier but . It will be fitted onboard a tanker next month, its first installation. David Stevens, Sales Director at Guardian Maritime says “Following several months of development and trials, we have designed a modification to the reverse of the unit which alleviates the issue of Greenwater by providing a drainage mechanism.

S. Korea Still Dominates World Shipbuilding

Hyundai Heavy Industries' built Abdelkader, a 177,000 cu. m. Tri-Fuel Diesel Electric LNG Carrier which was named "Great Ship of the Year" in 2010 by Maritime Reporter & Engineering News.

While China has aggressively built its shipbuilding infrastructure in the past 10 years, the most important number, top winner in contract value, still remains the domain of South Korea, which has reportedly logged $37.8b in orders thus far in 2011 vs. China's $10.3 billion, according to a report today on www.businessweek.com. The evolution of the Chinese shipbuilding industry is actually akin to the development of a shipbuilding nation, with a focus on cheap labor and lower-technology, lower-value tonnage.

Augsburg Marine Engines Delivered to Spain and China

MAN B&W Diesel Group has revised their 32/40 engine series based on a number of innovations, the engine’s soot concentration was reduced under the visibility limit almost over the whole load range. At the same time, the fuel consumption sank. The company has now received two orders for the delivery of six 32/40 engines in total. Two 9L32/40 large-bore Diesel engines with an output of just under 5900 HP each will, by the end of the year, be built for the German shipping company Bockstiegel, Emden, delivered to China and installed in two new 502-TEU container vessels in the Jingling shipyard, Nanjing. In spring 2003, MAN B&W Diesel will deliver the engine components for four 7L32/40 (approx. 4600 HP) to the Spanish licensee IZAR in Cartagena.
