Bollinger Delivers 15th FRC to U.S. Coast Guard

Bollinger Shipyards has delivered the JOSEPH NAPIER, the 15th Fast Response Cutter (FRC) to the United States Coast Guard. The announcement was made by Bollinger’s President & C.E.O., Ben Bordelon. “We are very pleased to announce the delivery of the latest FRC built by Bollinger Shipyards, the JOSEPH NAPIER, to the 7th Coast Guard District in Puerto Rico. The 154 foot patrol craft JOSEPH NAPIER is the 15th vessel in the Coast Guard's Sentinel-class FRC program. To build the FRC, Bollinger used a proven, in-service parent craft design based on the Damen Stan Patrol Boat 4708. It has a flank speed of 28 knots, state of the art command, control, communications and computer technology, and a stern launch system for the vessel’s 26 foot cutter boat.

Lockport, La.-based Bollinger Shipyards announced that Ben Bordelon will assume the duties of chairman, president and chief executive officer of the company. Ben Bordelon, along with the Chouest family from Galliano, La., has acquired all assets and stock of Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. Bordelon has served in many capacities during his career at Bollinger, and has been a member of the board of directors since 2002. Bollinger Shipyards announce that Daniel “Danny” Richardel has been named Vice President-General Manager of Bollinger Marine Fabricators, Amelia, Louisiana. Ben Bordelon, Bollinger’s Chief Operating Officer said: “Danny has been an integral component of Bollinger’s success in the many commercial and government programs we have completed over the years. His leadership and management skills will help guide the success of our Marine Fabricators facility for many years to come. Bollinger Advances in $10 Billion OPC Program

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. was notified yesterday by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) that Bollinger is one of three companies selected for award of Phase I for the Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) program. Chris Bollinger, President of Bollinger Shipyards provided remarks today after receiving this notification. "For over three decades, Bollinger Shipyards has a legacy of producing exceptional Coast Guard Cutters on budget and on schedule. To be selected in the final competition for this program is both exciting and rewarding for our company, our talented workforce, and the State of Louisiana.

Bollinger Wins 8th Consecutive SCA Safety Award

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. was awarded the 2012 “Award for Excellence in Safety” by the Shipbuilders Council of America for the eighth consecutive year. On April 11, 2013, The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA) presented the “Award for Excellence in Safety” to Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. during the association’s Spring General Membership Meeting in Washington, DC. The Award for Excellence in Safety is given to member companies with the lowest Total Recordable Incident Rates (TRIR) based on a quarterly injury and illness survey conducted by the association.

Bollinger Delivers 55,000 Barrel OPA'90 Tank Barget To Bouchard. Bollinger Marine Fabricators, L.L.C., Amelia, La., a Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. company, has delivered the B. No. 250, a newly designed and constructed 55,000 barrel OPA’90 compliant tank barge to Bouchard Transportation Co., Inc., Melville, NY. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The announcement was made by Bollinger executive vice president of new construction, Chris Bollinger, “We are very pleased to announce the OPA’90 tank barge, B. No. 250, as another successful delivery to the Bouchard family.

Trinity Offshore Re-Brands as TY Offshore

John Dane III presented TY Offshore to the maritime industries. The re-branding of the company from Trinity Offshore to TY Offshore is intended to provide clear market positioning for the leading Mississippi-based designer and builder of commercial tugs, offshore barges, oil spill response, patrol and oil field support vessels from 10 meters to 95 meters (33’ to 312’) in length. The name change is also intended to delineate the company from Dallas, Texas-based Trinity Industries, Inc.

Harvey Gulf Contracts to Build First U.S. LNG-Powered Vessels

Today, Harvey Gulf International Marine became the first U.S. vessel operator to contract for construction of vessels capable of operating exclusively on natural gas. The agreement is for two, 302’ X 64’, Dual Fuel Offshore Supply Vessels, with an option for a third. The contract was signed with Trinity Offshore, which will build the vessels at their Gulfport, MS shipyard. In addition to being powered by cleaner burning natural gas, the vessels will achieve “ENVIRO+, Green Passport” Certification by the American Bureau of Shipping.

Bollinger Safety Program Achieves Milestones

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. continues to achieve safety milestones changing the culture of shipyard safety awareness at its US based facilities. In the last quarter, Bollinger facilities at Algiers and Lockport New Construction both surpassed one year without a lost time accident. Of the many program achievements this year, the Bollinger Fourchon facility reached 10 years without a LTA, and the Bollinger Marine Fabricators’ facility reached an impressive 2,750,000 man-hours worked without a LTA. Achieving these significant accomplishments reinforces Bollinger’s commitment to provide world-class performance levels in all aspects of compliance at its twelve (12) shipyard facilities.

Yearbook 2010: Boatyards

In the vessel construction market, small boat builder All American Marine of Bellingham, Wash., and RIB builder Wing Inflatables of Arcata, Calif. both reported a satisfactory 2010 in their niche markets, with good reasons to be optimistic about 2011. Bollinger Shipyards, a major builder in the offshore market also had a good 2010, but is bracing for the impact of the drilling moratorium going into 2011. Meanwhile, new yard, Argosy Boat Company, of Pierre Part, La., is still working to establish itself as a diesel-electric, Z-drive towboat builder.

Tidewater Signs Construction Contract

Tidewater Inc. announced today that it has entered into a $45 million construction contract with Bollinger Shipyards Lockport LLC for the construction of four (4) offshore supply vessels. The high performance, high capacity 207-foot platform supply vessels will be delivered during the period beginning in October 2003 and ending in May 2004. Prior to entering into the contract, Donald T. "Boysie" Bollinger, chairman and C.E.O. of Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., resigned from his position as a director of Tidewater. Dean Taylor, C.E.O. and president of Tidewater, commented, "It is with mixed emotions that we are making these announcements.

Breathing New Life into Old Workboats

There is no question that timely repairs and preventative maintenance can extend the life of almost any workboat. It is also true that changing market conditions can lead to renovations to effectively extend the life of many vessels. The one event that triggers many repair projects is the Coast Guard's five-year hull inspection program, often referred to as a "shave and a haircut". Most operators use these occasions to inspect shafts, wheels and do top side repairs as well. With the hull is out of the water, not only can shafts, rudders and wheels be repaired, but also anodes replaced, sea chests inspected and the entire bottom given a coat of anti-fouling paint.

Bollinger Modifies Vessel For Deeper Dredging

Two Bollinger shipyards have teamed to increase the dredging depth of the Pine Bluff Sand and Gravel Co. dustpan dredge, Wallace Mcgeorge, from 62-ft. to 75-ft., enabling it to dredge at higher river stages and dispatch sooner on a falling river. In the process, Bollinger Quick Repair, Harvey, La., fabricated and installed 45-ton, 36-ft. by 20-ft., port and starboard sections to the horn of the dredge, increasing the vessel’s overall length from 252.5 feet to 288.5 ft. The shipyard then installed a new 46-ton, 40-ft. wide by 15-ft. by 30-ft. high, A-frame which it had pre-fabricated for the dredge. The A-frame, which more closely resembles an inverted “U”…

Bollinger Delivers Bordelon Boat

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., has delivered the 145-ft. supply/utility boat WES BORDELON to Bordelon Marine, Inc. It is the first of three nearly identical supply/utility vessels under construction at Bollinger for Bordelon, which will double the number of oil field support vessels (OSV) in the fleet of the Lockport-based vessel operator. Speaking at the recent christening of the boat on the Mississippi River in New Orleans, Bordelon's CEO, Terry Bordelon said, "We chose Bollinger as our partner in designing and building this boat. Boysie (Donald "Boysie" Bollinger, chairman and CEO of Bollinger) gave us insightful thoughts into what customers would want now and in the future along with the new requirements of the various regulatory bodies.
