The platform supply vessel World Diamond was delivered by Damen Shipyards, Galati, on June 28, 2013, to World Wide Supply. The PSV was built to a completely new and distinctive design from Damen, and World Diamond is the first of six PSVs for the Norwegian owner. The offshore market continues to be a significant driver for marine innovation, as vessels and their operators are critical factors to ensure that offshore operations – increasingly conducted in deeper, more hostile waters further from shore – are conducted in a safe and efficient manner. Here Maritime Reporter examines some notable recent designs, developments and deliveries. Eastern Shipbuilding Group, which has been extremely busy of late in the offshore sector, delivered M/V HOS Red Rock (Hull 202) to Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC.

Damen Shipyards Group is set to deliver the fifth Platform Supply Vessel in a series of six to World Wide Supply of Norway. World Opal is a Damen PSV 3300 CD. The first ship, World Diamond, was delivered in July and the last in the series World Sapphire is due to be delivered mid-December. Delivery of the new design involved extensive CAD/CAM modeling by Damen Shipyards itself and model testing at Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN). The 3300 is part of an entire new range of Damen PSVs. With an 80.1m length, the PSV 3300 has a deck load of 1,500 metric tons.

Damen Shipyards Galati has handed over the third Platform Supply Vessel in a series of six to World Wide Supply of Norway. This six-ship order heralds a new era in offshore construction for Damen Shipyards Group. World Pearl is built to Damen’s entirely new PSV 3300 design. The first of the Class PSV 3300, World Diamond, was delivered in July to the Norwegian company. “Delivery of the first PSV 3300 represents a new era in Damen’s continuing offshore supply vessel story,” said Arnout Damen commenting at the time of the first delivery.

'World Diamond', the first of a series of six uniquely designed platform supply vessels (PSV), was christened recently by the ship’s godmother, Princess Margareta of Romania, at Damen Shipyards’ Galati in Romania. Each of these PSVs is classed by Lloyd’s Register and is of 3,300 dwt with a breadth of 16.2 metres and draught of 6.5 metres. The remaining five PSVs will be delivered to their owner, Norwegian offshore support company, World Wide Supply AS (WWS), later this year. A 2,600-grt multi-purpose Lights Tender on order in Holland for operation in the Middle East is to feature a sophisticated buoy-handling crane designed and manufactured by Norway's TTS Marine ASA. The vessel has been ordered by Middle East Navigation Aids Service (MENAS) from the Damen Shipyards Group in Holland, with the 82.6 m long hull being sub-contracted to Damen's Galatz Shipyard in Romania, with final outfitting taking place at Schelde Naval Shipbuilding in Vlissingen, Holland. Hull No. 554001 at Damen Shipyards is designed for a wide variety of operations, including buoy-handling and laying, oil pollution recovery and hydrographic survey work and brings a new level of sophistication to these types of operation in the Arabian Gulf…
