Kinder Morgan Says Idalia Caused Minimal Damage to Florida Terminals

Kinder Morgan KMI.N on Wednesday said its Port Manatee, Port Sutton and Tampaplex terminals in Florida sustained minimal damage due to Hurricane Idalia, and that it was also planning to shut its Charleston area terminals later in the day.The U.S. energy company said it was planning to reopen the terminals on Thursday, while its Tampa facilities including the Tampa refined products terminal and Central Florida Pipeline system have resumed normal operations.The Port Manatee, Port Sutton and Tampaplex terminals handle commodities such as fertilizers…

Repair to Oil Pipe that Shut U.S. Offshore Output Due by End of Day

Crews were expected to replace a damaged oil pipeline piece by the end of the day on Friday, a Louisiana port official said, allowing for the resumption of production at seven offshore U.S. Gulf of Mexico oil platforms.A failed flange connecting two pipelines operated by Shell in Louisiana caused about two barrels of oil to leak, said Chett Chiasson, executive director of Greater Lafourche Port Commission. Coast Guard Probing 350 Reports of Oil Spills in Wake of Hurricane Ida

The U.S. Coast Guard on Monday said it was probing nearly 350 reports of oil spills in and along the U.S. Gulf Coast in the wake of Hurricane Ida.Hurricane Ida's 150 mile per hour (240 kph) winds wreaked havoc on offshore oil production platforms and onshore oil and gas processing plants. About 88% of the region's offshore oil production remains shut and more than 100 platforms unoccupied after the storm made landfall Aug. 29.The Coast Guard has been conducting flyovers off the coast of Louisiana looking for spills.

US Offshore Oil Workers Flee as Storm Approaches Gulf of Mexico

U.S. energy companies on Thursday began airlifting workers from Gulf of Mexico oil production platforms and moved vessels from the path of what could become a devastating hurricane by the weekend.A storm is brewing in the Caribbean Sea and is forecast to grind through the main oil-producing region of the Gulf. It could become a major hurricane ahead of landfall on the central Gulf Coast, the National Hurricane Center said. Tullow Launches Deepwater FPSO Despite Glut

Tullow not for sale but could be take-over target - COO. Amid one of the deepest oil price crashes in history, Britain's Tullow Oil is sending one of the world's biggest floating deep-water oil production platforms to West Africa to pump crude for at least 20 years. The 340-metre long production vessel, named after late Ghanaian president Prof John Evans Atta Mills, was converted in Singapore from a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) super-tanker, and is expected to set sail this weekend to Ghana, where it is scheduled to gradually ramp up production from the TEN deepwater oilfield from July/August this year, the company's chief operating officer Paul McDade said on Thursday.

Sturrock Dry Dock Puts Operation Phakisa into Action

The Sturrock Dry Dock in the Port of Cape Town has been a hive of activity recently with a number of interesting vessels berthing at the facility for repairs and maintenance. The mining vessel, mv Debmar Atlantic, owned by De Beers Marine Namibia (Pty) Ltd, recently underwent routine work at the dry dock, carried out by contracting firms. Built in 1978, mv Debmar Atlantic features its own diamond processing plant on board the vessel. During the mining process gravel, bearing diamonds, is airlifted from the seabed to the vessel.

Black Elk Energy Offshore Operations LLC, Grand Isle Shipyards Inc., Wood Group PSN Inc., as well as Don Moss, 46, of Groves, Texas, Curtis Dantin, 50, of Cut-Off, La., and Christopher Srubar, 40, of Destrehan, La., have been charged with crimes for a November 2012 explosion on an oil production platform that resulted in the death of three workers, the injury of others and an oil spill, announced the Department of Justice’s Environment and Natural Resources Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

OSX Brasil Suspends Creditor Payments

A Netherlands-based subsidiary of Brazilian tycoon Eike Batista's bankrupt shipbuilding and shipleasing unit OSX Brasil SA suspended payments to creditors after being granted protection by a Dutch court. According to a securities filing on Thursday, OSX sought protection for its OSX WHP 1&2 Leasing BV unit after an unnamed "alleged creditor" asked a court to order payment in a way that threatened OSX's obligations to other creditors. OSX WHP was created to finance the building of two fixed, offshore oil-production platforms for bankrupt sister oil company Oleo e Gas Participacoes SA.

FPSO Contract Suspension Could Cost Petrobas US$15-bln

Profit at Petrobras, Brazil's state-led oil company, could be reduced by $15 billion between 2014 and 2018 if it had to suspend oil platform contracts with Holland's SBM Offshore NV, the company said in a securities filing. The potential reduction in profit is based on an estimate of the amount of lost oil and natural gas output and additional spending needed if Petrobras had to stop using the floating oil production platforms leased from SBM, it said in the Saturday filing. The estimate was made in response to a request by Brazil's Office of the Comptroller General (CGU), Petrobras said in the filing. The CGU is the Brazilian federal-government agency responsible for the protection of public property.

Wison Begins Building New Fabrication Yard

Wison Offshore & Marine Ltd. (Wison Offshore & Marine) announced today the commencement of the construction of key modularized components for the Petroleos De Venezuela, S.A.(PDVSA) RPLC refinery project at Wison Offshore & Marine’s Zhoushan Fabrication Yard (The Zhoushan Yard). This project marks the first construction project at Wison Offshore & Marine’s Zhoushan yard, and the official operational launch of the first phase of the yard. The yard is located on Xiushan Island in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province and covers an area of 1.5 million square meters with a coastline of 2,300 meters. Construction on the second phase of the yard is ongoing, and is scheduled to be fully complete and operational in 2015.

Konecranes Wins Follow-up Order from Brazilian Shipyard

Konecranes received an order for high-tech portal jib crane from Brasilian shipyard.

In June 2013 Konecranes received a further order from Brazilian shipyard Estaleiro Enseada do Paraguaçu – EEP. The high-tech portal jib crane is scheduled to be taken into operation in August 2014. The order follows up the Konecranes Goliath gantry crane that the same customer ordered in March 2013. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the order, but the price for this type of crane typically is in the range of $6-8 million, depending on the exact scope of delivery. The crane will be equipped with the latest in crane technology.

President Vladimir Putin names icebreaking platform supply vessel 'Vitus Bering' & Russian shipbuilders sign newbuild contracts. Modern multipurpose vessels of the Vitus Bering series will conduct year-round deliveries of personnel, goods and expendable supplies to oil production platforms. In particular, it is planned to use this type of icebreaker to ensure the smooth operation of Sakhalin-1 oil platforms in the Arkutun-Dagi field in the Sea of Okhotsk. The lead ship of the series was named after Vitus Bering, an explorer and officer in the Russian Navy.

Iraqi Navy Receives Two US Navy OSV's

The Iraqi navy and the U.S. Navy's Naval Sea Systems Command mark delivery of two 60-meter Offshore Support Vessels (OSV's). The delivery ceremony was held recently at the Umm Qasr naval facility in Iraq. The two OSVs, procured as part U.S. Navy's Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Program, will help reconstitute Iraq's ability to enforce maritime sovereignty and security in the Northern Arabian Gulf. "This occasion reflects the important ties that bind our governments and our commitment to supporting s strong coalition partnership that is based on mutual respect and understanding," said Vice Adm.

Suddenly, operators have another viable choice for newbuild and repair work. After being off the radar for perhaps as many as 12 years – during which the yard was itself quite busy primarily servicing internal Reinauer requirements – Rhode Island-based Senesco Marine LLC has moved more aggressively into the outside commercial markets. Although perhaps representing a somewhat new entity to some clients, Senesco is anything but new on the scene. Boskalis Wins Large Offshore Contracts

Royal Boskalis Westminster NV wins 3 contracts for offshore projects in Northwest Europe totalling about EUR 110 million. Boskalis has signed a contract with partners DONG Energy and Scottish Power Renewables for the partial construction of the "West of Duddon Sands" offshore wind park in the Irish Sea. The work comprises the preparation of the seabed and the transport and placing of 108 wind turbine foundations. The project will be carried out by Boskalis Offshore and SMIT Marine Projects in collaboration with partner Volker Construction International.The combined contract value for Boskalis-SMIT amounts to approximately EUR 70 million. The work will commence in the first quarter of 2013 and be completed mid-2014.

BOEMRE Report of Platform Fire Investigation

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) today released the findings of its investigation into a fire that occurred Sept. 2, 2010, on Mariner Energy Inc.’s, Vermilion 380 A oil and natural gas production platform located approximately 102 miles off the coast of Louisiana. A BOEMRE Accident Investigation Panel concluded that the fire was caused by the collapse of a fire tube located inside of the platform’s Heater-Treater.

Topaz Second Vessel for $225M BP Contract

Topaz Energy and Marine recently took delivery of the newest addition to its fleet, the Caspian Protector. The vessel will be deployed in Azerbaijan in support of a 10 year $225m BP contract won in 2008. The Caspian Protector is a state-of-the-art 200-ft vessel designed for emergency recovery and response (ERRV), standby duties and fire fighting operations. Petrobras Approves Contracts to Build 10 New Units

Petrobras said that it would contract to build 10 offshore oil production platforms in the coming eight years for a newly found pre-salt oil field. The 10 new units, to operate in ultra-deep waters, will tap the pre-salt oil reserves discovered recently off the country's southeastern coast. According to the company, the first two units will be chartered from third parties. Each will have a daily production capacity of 100,000 barrels of crude and 5 million cubic meters of natural gas. Aker Promar to Invest $46m in New Rio Shipyard

Norwegian shipbuilding company Aker Promar plans to invest $45.7m in building a new shipyard in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro state, the state government announced. U.S. offshore support company Edison Chouest will invest through local subsidiary Alfanave in the construction of an offshore support base in the same region close to the town of Quissama and Brazil's oil industry hub of Macae. The companies set the foundation stones on Tuesday. This will be Aker Promar's second shipbuilding facility in the country. The new shipyard will be large enough to build and carry out maintenance on large ships and oil production platforms.
