Equinor to Boost Drilling to Extend Norwegian Shelf Life

Oil producer Equinor aims to boost the recovery rate from its Norwegian fields to well above the global average to extend production from the mature basin beyond 2030.Equinor announced plans on Tuesday to drill up to 3,000 wells offshore from its native Norway in coming decades - almost as many as it has drilled since its startup in 1972 - to mitigate declining output from older fields, and extend the production lifetime of more than 20 installations.The company said it remained on track for to keep profitable oil and gas production in Norway towards 2030…

A Turning Point in Oil Spill Recovery

Cleaning up marine oil spills can be a challenge as there are various types of oil spilled but only a few effective recovery methods. The three main technologies for oil spill recovery for inland and offshore waters are mechanical, insitu burning (ISB), and dispersant application. Absorbent booms and pads may also be used, but they are more effective for small fuel spills. Mechanical recovery, usually an oil skimmer, is a device that skims contained floating oil and transfers the recovered oil to a storage container or vessel.

Norwegian Shelf Subsea Contract for Aker Solutions

Aker Solutions wins a topside modification contract by Statoil to increase oil recovery at Gullfaks South. Estimated contract value is NOK 180 million. The main object of the project is to deliver topside modification for tie-in of two new templates, located at Gullfaks South, to Gullfaks A, plus topside modification for re-routing production from existing template D from Gullfaks A to Gullfaks C. Scope of work under the Gullfaks South increased oil recovery topside project includes engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning assistance (EPCIc). Statoil Awards Aker a Contract for New Type of Rig

Statoil is awarding Aker Solutions a contract today for hiring of an entirely new type of rig, which represents an important technological advance for the industry. The category B rig will represent an important contribution toward increasing recovery from existing fields. The rig with associated integrated services is expected to reduce operating costs for well intervention by as much as 40 percent. Development of technology for increasing the recovery from operating fields is an area of commitment for Statoil.

New Contract for Aker Solutions and BP Norway

Aker Solutions secures maintenance and modifications contract with BP Norway. BP has decided to extend the maintenance and modification contract with Aker Solutions, exercising an option in the existing agreement for the Ula, Valhall, Skarv, Hod and Tambar fields. Scope of work under the contract includes maintenance support services and brownfield modification projects covering engineering, procurement, fabrication and offshore installation. The contract currently employs approximately 200 people in Stavanger, 20 in Egersund and 300 in offshore rotation. Maintenance and modifications work will help to increase oil recovery rate and extend the life of BP's fields.

Glosten Associates on Winning X‐Prize Team

On Tuesday, October 11, 2011 Team Elastec, a partnership of co‐inventors Elastec/American Marine and Glosten Associates, Inc., was awarded the $1 million first prize for winning the X‐Prize Foundation’s Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup Challenge with an ocean‐capable oil recovery system that shattered previous records for oil recovery rate and efficiency under controlled conditions. Hays Awarded Statoil Research Prize

Professor Curtis Hays Whitson has been awarded Statoil’s research prize 2010 for his major input to boosting knowledge about recovery of gas and gas condensate fields and improved recovery of oil fields by the use of gas injection. The prominent researcher came to Norway in the early 1980s. As professor and entrepreneur he has conducted numerous studies for Hydro and Statoil in connection with field implementation of gas injection on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) and internationally, as well as studies related to gas field recovery and phase behaviour of reservoirs.
