With eyes on the future of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the maritime sector, Caterpillar Marine said it will unveil a first-of-its-kind LNG test bed for gas-fuelled engines at its facility in Kiel, Germany where the company will aim to improve understanding of related technology and enhance its services to clients adopting LNG solutions. Cosco, China Shipping Merger Gets Green Signal from Beijing
China State Council has given the go-ahead for country's two largest shipping conglomerates to merge, continuing a trend in the industry to trim down state-owned enterprises, reports Caixin Media. The China Ocean Shipping Co. (COSCO Group) and China Shipping Group Co. have been working on a deal since August. The listed subsidiaries of the two firms are expected to make separate statements on their next step on December 11, the executive said. Meanwhile, WSJ reported that the shipping companies plan to issue details of their long-expected multibillion-dollar merger plans as early as Friday, quoting people with knowledge of the matter.
ConocoPhillips Marine Donatation to Help LNG Training
SUNY Maritime College has received a corporate donation of $10,000 from ConocoPhillips Marine to advance Maritime’s Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) training and educational program. Maritime will make upgrades to its liquid cargo simulator, increase the number of student stations within the simulator and purchase software for use in LNG tanker simulations. The program will also be expanded to include product tanker and crude oil tanker operations and training. Supreme Court To Review Washington Tanker Regulations
The U.S. Supreme Court has reportedly ordered a review of autonomous regulations imposed by the state of Washington on oil tanker operations. In 1995 the state imposed extra regulations on tankers, over and above federal requirements, covering onboard equipment, technology, training and operational requirements. The Supreme court backed Intertanko's petition against a previous court decision upholding the state's right to impose different manning and operating requirements.
