Mauritius Oil Spill Could Impact Country's Economy for Decades

Long Beach Port Appoints 4 Executives

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners continued to fill key positions in Harbor Department leadership ranks this week with four additional appointments of experienced executives to oversee Port of Long Beach operations. The four professionals all have long and valuable experience in their fields of engineering, maintenance and finance, and come from outside the Port of Long Beach. Two of the positions are newly created and two were vacated earlier this year. Duane Kenagy has been appointed to the newly created position of Capital Programs Executive to oversee the Port’s capital improvement program and will report directly to the Chief Executive.

Howard Thill Joins Devon to Succeed White

Howard Thill has joined Devon Energy Corporation as senior vice president, communications and investor relations.He has joined the company to fill the position created by the retirement of Vince White, senior vice president, communications and investor relations. The company announced yesterday the retirement of Vince White who is scheduled to retire August 8, 2014. “Howard brings to Devon deep knowledge borne of extensive and varied experience in our industry,” John Richels, Devon’s president and chief executive officer said. Prior to joining Marathon, Thill was director of investor relations with Phillips Petroleum Co. He began his career with Phillips in 1982 as a drilling fluids sales/service engineer.

In Memory of Mike R. Dixon

My dear friend and ex-boss from Texas Oil & Gas, Mike R. Dixon died April 25, 2011. "He was a great man" are the words his children use to describe him. And that he was. His family has started a scholarship fund through the Oklahoma State University for students pursing journalism and communications. Below is a letter written by his son, Gregory Dixon. "In case you haven't heard, my father, Mike Ray Dixon, 67, of Katy, Texas, passed away April 25, 2011 while vacationing in Hawaii with his wife Judy, and sons Gregory (myself), and Douglas, and Matthew.

Rear Adm. Balisle Tapped as Next NAVSEA Commander

Navy Rear Adm. Phillip M. Balisle has been nominated as the next commander of Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) in Washington D.C., according to an announcement made by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld on June 11, 2002. Upon Senate confirmation, Balisle will also be promoted to the rank of vice admiral as he assumes command of the Navy's largest systems command. Balisle, a native of Idabel, Okla., is currently serving as Director, Surface Warfare Division on the Chief of Naval Operations staff at the Pentagon. He was commissioned in 1970 after graduating from Oklahoma State University. At sea, he commanded the destroyer USS Kidd (DDG 993), the cruiser USS Anzio (CG 68) and the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) Battle Group. He also previously served as NAVSEA's vice commander.
