Protectionism and long hauled free trade negotiations can be an expensive battle for the Danish shipowners, if the market outside the European Union are not included in free trade negotiations. The Danish Shipowners’ Association hosted a verbal rumble between the Danish Social Democrat Ole Christensen and the Belgian Socialist Maria Arena from the European Parliament at the European Shipping Week Tuesday afternoon. Lately free trade has been widely debated in the European Parliament due to the vote for the Canadian free trade agreement CETA. The social democratic group S&D has had internal disagreemeents on whether to vote for or against the agreement that was recently passed. The two members of the European Parliament brought this debate to the free trade fight club Tuesday afternoon.

Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS), the world’s leading maritime and logistics service provider, has greatly expanded its European business with Team Tankers International with a new port agency contract across the region. Under the new agreement with the chemical tanker specialist, ISS will provide port agency and vessel clearance services in all major European ports and terminals. Team Tankers International is one of the largest chemical tanker operators in the world, with a fleet of over 40 chemical tankers. While ISS has been providing port agency for Team Tankers International since 2013, this new agreement will capitalise on ISS’ Europe-wide offices within its global network.

With Tier III NOx limits entering into force in North America and the US Caribbean in January 2016, the time has come for many ship owners to choose their method of compliance. Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) on MAN B&W engines has strong advantages on its own. Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) has firmly shown its ability to comply with Tier III NOx limits, which will enter into force in January 2016. Developed by MAN Diesel & Turbo, the EGR process already relies on Alfa Laval’s PureNOx, which provides the vital cleaning of the scrubber water. Now Alfa Laval is cooperating with MAN Diesel & Turbo to implement an EGR boiler, which could potentially add major energy benefits to the secure emission compliance.
