BSM Gains DNV GL Approval for Remote Training Course

Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) said Wednesday it has received DNV GL class approval to offer the Liquified Cargo Operations (LICOS) training course remotely via its Maritime Training Centre (MTC) in Cyprus. The maritime solutions provider is now one of the few organizations within the industry with this capability that meet the standards of the Society of International Gas Tanker & Terminal Operators (SIGTTO).With current restrictions on travel, BSM guarantees steady training delivery to its internal gas fleet as well as to external customers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Safebridge Adds Kelvin Hughes ECDIS Training

Online simulation training specialist Safebridge will launch a new training course for Kelvin Hughes MantaDigital Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS). Kelvin Hughes Marine Systems, a supplier of ships’ bridge systems, has appointed Safebridge and its sister company MSG MarineServe GmbH as authorized training providers for Kelvin Hughes ECDIS products. The new course is available online through the Safebridge cloud-based Internet infrastructure, on-board or as classroom-based training through the ECDIS Training Consortium (ETC) Network. Naval Education and Training Command (NETC) announced Feb. 10 that the Navy's comprehensive enlisted career guides, Learning and Development Roadmaps (LaDR), have transitioned to a Web application that is easily-accessed and instantly updatable. Available through Navy Knowledge Online (NKO) and Navy Credentialing Opportunities On-Line (Navy COOL), LaDRs are a vital tool that help guide enlisted Sailors throughout their career advancement, and are available for all enlisted ratings and paygrades. "The LaDRs effectively provide Sailors and their leadership a guide that displays in one location all of their current and projected enlisted training and education requirements as they advance," said Richard Nein, NETC LaDR program analyst.

Navy E-Learning Afloat Achieves Milestones

The months of May and June marked two important milestones for the Navy's e-Learning program in the Afloat (NEL Afloat) environment: the highest monthly total completions and 100,000 total course completions, respectively. Averaging 220 course completions per day since the capability was deployed, NEL Afloat surpassed 100,000 total course completions June 5. Secondly, during the month of May, ships reported 22,775 course completions, the highest monthly total of completions reported to date. “The number of total completions proves NEL Afloat has been a success. Maybe this is too superficial a view, but, to me, numbers don't lie," said Integrated Learning Environment Chief Engineer Roger White.
