FMC Grants Temporary Relief Requested by CMA CGM

The U.S. Federal Maritime Commission voted to grant the temporary relief sought by CMA CGM from certain service contract and tariff filing requirements following last month's cyber attack affecting the carrier's servers.Earlier this month, the French shipping company sought relief from Commission regulations as part of its efforts to respond to a malicious cyberattack it experienced in September.The Commission said Wednesday it granted the request for exemption from relevant service contract filing requirements and relevant tariff publishing requirements.

CMA CGM Resumes Online Services After Cyber Attack

FMC Considering CMA CGM Petition Following Cyber Attack

APM Terminals Mumbai Goes Online

At APM Terminals Mumbai it is now possible to submit Additional Service Requests (ASR) via its online Customer Service Portal. Replacing a manual process, this new automated process is quicker, simpler and more transparent for customers.Around 20 import and 20 export services can now be requested online, ranging from priority delivery, seal fixing, and inter-terminals transfers to early or late gate-ins, empty container storage and break-bulk handling.Requests for additional services are activated immediately, removing the need to allow for 24 hours processing. Singapore Port Readies for IMO 2020

Wärtsilä, Hidrovias Group Ink Maintenance Deal

Wärtsilä and Hidrovias do Brasil signed a five-year Optimized Maintenance agreement on the fleet of eight pusher tugs operating in the rivers of South America. The agreement enables flexible maintenance planning and execution according to the real condition of the equipment, thus ensuring better lifecycle value for the vessels. Hidrovias pusher tugs offer high-quality logistic solutions for the transportation of agricultural commodities, ores, steel products and other loads, with customized long-term projects in the rivers of Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. Vessels are operating in demanding shallow waters and remote locations, which makes maintenance planning and execution challenging for pusher tug operators.

MPA Introduces Service Enhancements and Training

More than 4,600 ships flying the Singapore flag will benefit from service enhancements to be introduced from November 2017 by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). Singapore-incorporated maritime companies will also receive assistance in the form of training on sustainability reporting. These initiatives were announced by Chief Executive of MPA, Mr Andrew Tan, at the Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS) Forum. Wärtsilä, ABB Expand Engine Performance Partnership

Stena Line Signs Up for MAN Online Service

MAN Diesel & Turbo recently signed a contract with Stena Line to provide its online service to two vessels. The Stena Hollandica and Stena Britannica are both conventional passenger-and-vehicle superferries that sail the daily route between the Hook of Holland and Harwich and are each powered by 4 × MAN 48/60CR engines. Boxship Firms Sign up with Alibaba

Two container shipping lines, France's CMA CGM and Israel's Zim, have signed up with Alibaba to allow customers to book space on their vessels through the Chinese e-commerce giant, in a bid to boost sales as the sector battles a severe downturn. Container lines, facing their worst ever downturn due to a glut of ships and weaker demand, are pursuing several measures such as vessel-sharing arrangements or mergers and acquisitions to ride out the current slump. A growing number of logistics firms are going online to buoy their business. In December, Maersk - the world's largest container shipping line and a unit of Denmark's A.P. Moller-Maersk - started offering online booking services to Chinese shippers on Alibaba's OneTouch website.

Maersk, Alibaba Team up to offer Online Booking

Maersk, the world's largest container shipping line, has teamed up with Alibaba to allow customers to reserve space on its vessels through the Chinese company, illustrating growing cooperation between e-commerce and logistics firms. Maersk, a unit of Denmark's A.P. Moller-Maersk, began offering the service to Chinese shippers on Alibaba's OneTouch booking website on Dec. 22, a spokeswoman for the shipping line said on Wednesday. Shippers traditionally go through freight forwarders to book space for goods on container vessels, but lines such as Maersk are allowing cargo owners to book directly via the internet. For their part, e-commerce companies are increasingly venturing into logistics activities to try to gain better control over their supply chain networks.

Wärtsilä to Optimize GasLog's LNG Carriers

Wärtsilä informs it has signed a maintenance agreement with the GasLog LNG Services Limited that aims to ensure the reliability of operation of GasLog's seven LNG carriers, each having a cargo capacity of 155,000 cbm. According to Wärtsilä, the demand for predictive analytics and advisory services is increasing. By analyzing the data collected from GasLog's vessels, Wärtsilä said it is able to provide valuable information regarding the condition of the equipment, which enables GasLog to optimize maintenance and asset performance.

PierPass' New President Responsible for Ports of LA & Long Beach

New president John Cushing’s role gives him responsibility for PierPass programs to relieve congestion and improve air quality at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. He takes over the role of president from Bruce Wargo, who has led PierPass since its founding in 2004 and remains CEO. “John’s leadership in services for terminal operators, trucking companies and cargo owners, along with his experience developing and managing a new international container terminal, put PierPass and the OffPeak Program in able hands,” Mr. Wargo said. Mr. Wargo has taken on the additional role of PierPass board chairman. Under the OffPeak program, the 13 international container terminals at the two adjacent ports operate additional shifts on nights and Saturdays.

Wärtsilä Signs Extensive Services Supply Agreement

Wärtsilä has signed an extensive three-year services supply agreement with the Norwegian DOF Group in the end of April 2014. The agreement covers services for all Wärtsilä equipment, including engines and propulsion as well as electrical and automation systems, for DOF's vessels with Wärtsilä equipment operating in Norway, Brazil and Singapore. DOF Group is a global company that provides a comprehensive range of purpose-built offshore vessels and subsea services to the offshore oil and gas industry worldwide. The company owns and operates a fleet of 77 vessels.

MCP Nets IMR Vessel Communications Contract

Maritime Communication Partner (MCP) has been contracted by DeepOcean to provide state-of-the-art online and mobile communications for a Kleven newbuild MT6022 offshore vessel which will provide Inspection, Maintenance and Repair (IMR) services for all Statoil operated fields on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS). This five-year IMR agreement, say MCP, commencing in Q1 2014, is worth more than NOK 1.5billion (USD 253million). MCP’s role will be to keep DeepOcean and Statoil connected.
