DNV GL Opens LNG Test Center

DNV GL opens LNG test center. The facility, at the organization’s existing renewable energy technology and gas laboratory site is the first type of facility with a capacity compatible for the downstream sector. Its capacity is up to 250kg of liquefied gas and boasts a heat exchanger that allows the temperature of the LNG – and therefore its boil-off – to be precisely regulated. Johan Holstein, Head of gas testing and analysis at DNV GL – Oil & Gas, said the testing of new sensor technology to rapidly identify the composition of LNG would be a priority. “The current accredited technology, gas chromatography, can take 3-5 minutes to show the composition of LNG,” Holstein explained.

Brightoil Launches Online Bunker Trading Platform

International bunker trader and supplier Brightoil has launched a new suite of online tools that aims to transform the way bunker fuel is traded globally. Brightoil Bunker Online E-Delivery platform is now live and includes a Forward Fixed Price (FFP) facility making the process of buying bunkers anywhere in the world faster, easier and more transparent. The new facility enables customers to lock-in bunker cost for up to nine months forward thereby reducing exposure to major price swings. Online BWM Tools Launched

A new online learning portal including a free e-learning course on the Operational Aspects of Ballast Water Management (BWM) was launched today by the GEF-UNDP-IMO GloBallast Partnerships Program and the Global Industry Alliance (GIA). The online tools have been developed by the GloBallast project, with financial support from the GIA to assist with the wider implementation of the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments, 2004 (BWM Convention).

SUNY Maritime Grads Start at Higher Salary: PayScale

What do SUNY Maritime College graduates have that Princeton, Harvard, Yale, and Columbia graduates don’t have? Higher starting annual salaries; that’s what, answers SUNY. In fact, SUNY Maritime College has the highest-earning alumni of any state public college in the nation, according to PayScale, Inc. in its 2014-15 College Salary Report issued last week. What differentiates the PayScale, Inc. report from the other national third-party endorsements, says SUNY, is that it focuses on alumni outcomes. According to the report, SUNY Maritime bachelor's-only graduates report early career median salaries of $62,100 and mid-career median incomes of $121,700. Maritime College’s ranking by PayScale, Inc. comes days following the 2015 rankings by U.S.

AXSTanker Version 3 Released

AXSMarine launched Version 3.0 of AXSTanker, its internet-based software. Not only will it have an upgraded interface and include a more user-friendly look, but improvements to the functionality of the system will also serve to enhance database interrogation and data retrieval. Brokers looking to search the database can do so now based on vessel draft and beam restrictions as opposed to just using Panamax or Suezmax vessel size search strings. There is a new attach file capability on the system as well as an AIS data, sourced from Vesseltracker, map and history access capability. Equally as important, Q88 files can now be uploaded via the AXS Support system (email to [email protected]) and can be exported in PDF, text or Word formats.

Marlink Debuts Online Tools to Control Costs

Marlink unveiled new cost-saving enhancements to its industry-leading account management tool, MarlinkOnline, available exclusively to Marlink customers. MarlinkOnline is a secure Web-based tool allowing both maritime and land-based customers to more directly manage their Marlink communication accounts by permitting authorized users to review and analyze their monthly invoices and daily account usage, as well as print call records and invoice details. Stratos Deploys AmosConnect for Dockendale

Stratos Global Corp. announced it has completed deployment of its AmosConnect from Stratos maritime satellite communications solution for 28 commercial vessels managed by Dockendale Shipping Co., Ltd. Dockendale is is a provider of maritime transportation services. Deployed on more than 10,000 vessels worldwide, AmosConnect integrates email, fax, telex and GSM text into a single messaging system for use onboard or in offices onshore. The user-friendly solution can be tailored to meet the mobile connectivity needs of maritime vessels ranging from small yachts to large commercial fleets. Stratos outfitted each of Dockendale’s 28 vessels with one AmosConnect license, installed on an Inmarsat Fleet F77 satellite terminal.
