US Interior Dept Revokes Trump Energy Policies, Focuses on Climate

65,000 Wells will be Drilled in 2019

Rystad Energy forecasts that the number of onshore and offshore oil and gas wells drilled globally will increase to around 65,000 in 2019.Activity levels are then projected to remain around this level through 2023, the energy research and business intelligence company said.Rystad Energy also forecasts that more than 1 million kilometers of new oil and gas wells will be drilled over the next five years. The collective depth of these wells is the equivalent of 25 times around the equator – or 2.5 times the distance to the moon.As the global oil and gas industry gets back into high gear – thanks in no small part to higher commodity prices – demand for steel is set to increase.

Statoil Wins Offshore Wind Lease in New York

Just days after Deepwater Wind said its Block Island Wind Farm has begun delivering electricity into the New England region’s grid, Statoil reports that it has been declared the provisional winner of the U.S. government’s wind lease sale of 79,350 acres offshore New York. Statoil will now have the opportunity to explore the potential development of an offshore wind farm to provide New York City and Long Island with a significant, long-term source of renewable electricity. Statoil submitted a winning bid of $42,469,725 during the online offshore wind auction concluded by the U.S. Department of the Interior's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM).

On August 19, 2016, we watched as the fifth tower and associated nacelle was raised on the Deepwater Offshore Wind Farm approximately 3 miles offshore of Block Island, Rhode Island. This is the first Offshore Wind farm erected in the United States and, without a doubt, a huge step forward for this controversial project and alternative energy supply. The Block Island Wind Farm has a total generating capacity of 30 megawatts and is projected to produce approximately 125,000 megawatt hours annually.

SBI Offshore Negotiating Contract for Rig Builds

SBI Offshore Limited has announced that the Middle East-Chinese consortium, which recently awarded its subsidiary a contract to provide design and engineering services for a jack-up drilling rig, has commenced discussions with the SGX Catalist-listed company to build up to five units of the rig. SBI Offshore said that it had commenced negotiations with the consortium about a week after securing from the latter the $24 million contract to design a rig that will meet American Bureau of Shipping Classification (A1 Self-Elevating Drilling Unit) requirements. The consortium, whose members are involved in oil and gas activities, has indicated that the rigs will eventually be deployed in the Middle East and various parts of Asia for operation in water depths of up to 110 meters.

PPG Delivers Pipe Coatings in South Africa

Coatings specialist says it draws on local production network and highly experienced team to deliver high specification products for local utility project. PPG Protective and Marine Coatings announced completion of a major project for Africa Pipe Industries, supplying internal and external coatings on a 46km, 2.1m diameter pipeline installed for South African utility Rand Water. PPG supplied SIGMALINE 523 as an internal lining and SIGMALINE 855 as an external coating on the pipe installed at Sasolburg in the Free State region. Together, the coatings deliver high performance protection of both surfaces against corrosion and contamination of the pipeline content.

First TWMA Offshore Processing Contract in Norway

TWMA, a  company in integrated drilling and environmental solutions for the international onshore and offshore oil and gas industry, has been awarded a major contract with Total E&P Norge AS to deliver offshore waste management services during the development of the Martin Linge field located on the Northern Viking Graben in the Central North Sea. The seven-year contract is TWMA’s first offshore contract in the region and, if given the go-ahead by Norwegian authorities, could see the introduction of offshore processing to the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).

The three-legged Type MLT116C jackup rig is a multi-purpose jackup unit capable of operating in water depths of 300 feet and it will be converted into an accommodation support vessel for the purpose of accommodating 290 personnel.

TWMA Wins Angola's First Offshore Processing Contract

TWMA, a company in integrated drilling and environmental solutions for the international onshore and offshore oil and gas industry, has become the first to be awarded an offshore processing contract in Angola. The agreement, worth up to $35m, will see TWMA pioneer the concept of offshore processing in this rapidly developing but environmentally sensitive frontier, through the design, installation and operation of tailored solutions on board a newbuild drillship to support a major global operator’s drilling campaign. Underlining TWMA’s global growth plans, this latest contract - with duration of up to five years - will see the company establish a new onshore support facility in Luanda and is expected to generate up to 50 new jobs in Aberdeen and Angola by the end of the year.
