Top Rolls-Royce Power Systems Suppliers Honored

Rolls-Royce Power Systems has honoured its five best suppliers for outstanding performance in quality, logistics, environmental protection and cooperation in 2015. For the tenth year in a row, Rolls-Royce Power Systems has commended the top suppliers of its subsidiaries MTU, L’Orange and MTU Onsite Energy, choosing from a total of 495 candidates from around the globe. CFO Marcus A. Wassenberg stated “Our suppliers make a valuable contribution to product quality, substantially bolstering the competitive position of our engines and gensets, and consequently that of the entire company. For the third time, Harz Guss Zorge from Lower Saxony, Germany claimed the title of best supplier of unmachined parts. The company produces cylinder heads, exhaust elbows and engine mounts.

Rolls-Royce Sets Up MTU Middle East Subsidiary

Rolls-Royce has set up MTU Middle East as a new regional sales and service subsidiary with head office in Dubai to support distributors and business partners of MTU, MTU Onsite Energy and Bergen Engines in 21 countries in the Middle East and North Africa. In this region, high-speed and medium-speed large diesel and gas engines, drive systems and on-site power generation systems are mainly deployed in electrical power generation, the oil and gas industry, and to drive trains and agricultural machinery. Rolls-Royce Acquires Power Systems Unit

Rolls-Royce today announced the completion of its acquisition of Rolls-Royce Power Systems (RRPS). The move follows an announcement made on March 7, 2014 that the Board of Management of Daimler AG had decided to exercise the put option relating to its 50% equity interest in RRPS and the announcement on April 16, 2014 that Rolls-Royce and Daimler had agreed on a fair market valuation for the shareholding of €2.43 billion. MTU Launch Minnesota Youth Apprenticeship Program

MTU Onsite Energy Corp., a Rolls-Royce Power Systems company providing diesel and gas-based power system solutions, has announced the launch of a new youth apprentice program. The vocational training program is designed for high school juniors and seniors and will combine hands-on training in a manufacturing setting with classroom instruction. The program will begin this fall, in partnership with Mankato Area Public Schools, South Central College, Kato Cable, a full service cable assembly company, and EI Microcircuits, an electronics design and manufacturing company. Tognum Now under Rolls-Royce Power Systems Name

Effective immediately, the former Tognum AG will now operate under the name of Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG.

Effective immediately, the former Tognum AG will now operate under the name of Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG. Since March 2013, the specialist for large engines, propulsion systems and distributed energy systems has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rolls-Royce plc and Daimler AG, each of which has a 50% shareholding in the company via a joint venture. The group of companies with MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH as the core company has been consolidated in the Rolls-Royce Group’s results since the beginning of 2013.

Tognum America changes name to MTU America Inc.

Name change aligns corporate name with primary product brands MTU and MTU Onsite Energy; German holding company Tognum AG renamed Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG. Effective immediately, Tognum America Inc. has changed its name to MTU America Inc. Based in Novi, Mich., the company is responsible for the manufacture, development, sales and service of MTU engines, propulsion and drive systems and MTU Onsite Energy distributed energy systems in North and Latin America. The company also maintains manufacturing facilities in Aiken, S.C. and Mankato, Minn.

Tognum's Investment In the Future Kicks In

150 young people are embarking on training programs or courses of dual study at Tognum, and for the first time, these include trainees from the new Tognum location in Bergen, Norway. “Our new trainees represent an investment in the future of our company and the places we have on offer provide very attractive opportunities for those just starting out on their careers,” said Ingo Metzer, head of HR at Tognum. A total of 108 young people are starting courses at Tognum HQ in Friedrichshafen with 75 young men and 33 young women undertaking training in eleven vocational areas.

Tognum Honors Best Suppliers

Tognum, the propulsion and energy system specialist, has honored its best suppliers for the year 2012 with the Supplier Award in five categories. Jörg Schwitalla, member of the Board of Management responsible for personnel, integrity and operations, and Erik Manning, Head of Purchasing, handed over the awards. For the first time, Tognum presented the Supplier Award to two suppliers from the U.S. The prize in the category of "Most Improved for the Year" was awarded to the American supplier Honeywell International from Torrance in California. The Tognum Group buys turbochargers from them.

Dr. Ulrich Dohle New Head of Tognum

As announced in April, Dr Ulrich Dohle today takes up his new duties as Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Tognum AG. He succeeds Joachim Coers, who has left the company after nine years at his own request. In his new role, Dr Dohle will not only take on the typical duties of a CEO, such as corporate communication and strategy, but will also be responsible for R&D and quality management. In April, the Supervisory Board extended Dr Dohle's contract until December 31, 2015. He has been on the Executive Board of Tognum AG since 2009, previously holding the position of deputy CEO and CTO. One priority of the Executive Board's work will be to expand operations worldwide. At the same time, cooperation with Rolls-Royce and Daimler is to be intensified.

Tognum Honors Best Suppliers

This is the seventh year that Tognum has given accolades for outstanding achievements, but the first year in which there have been five categories. The awards were presented by Dr. Ulrich Dohle, Tognum executive board member responsible for Technology & Operations, and Erik Manning, head of purchasing at Tognum, accompanied by the relevant departmental managers. “The Supplier Award is a mark of outstanding achievement and quality,” Dohle emphasized. For the second year in succession, the award for best supplier of finished parts was won by Maschinenfabrik Spaichingen from Baden-Württemberg (Germany). They have been supplying the Tognum Group with control elements for MTU Series 4000 engines for many years.

Tognum Appoints New Board Member

Effective 1 July 2012, Dr. Michael Haidinger (51) is to be the new member of the Executive Board of Tognum AG responsible for sales. This was decided by the company’s Supervisory Board at its meeting yesterday evening unanimously. He succeeds Peter Kneipp (52), who left the Executive Board at the end of February 2012 by mutual agreement to pursue a new professional challenge. Dr. Haidinger is currently President of Rolls-Royce Deutschland and a member of the Supervisory Board of Tognum AG.

Genset Manufacturer to be Taken Over by Tognum MTU

Specialist manufacturer of propulsion and power systems, Tognum, has received the approval of the competition authorities for the takeover of the Bavarian manufacturer of power generator sets Aggretech. This means that 75.1 per cent of the shares in Aggretech will be transferred to Tognum this week. It is planned that the new Tognum subsidiary will be renamed to MTU Onsite Energy Systems GmbH. The Board of Management of Aggretech and later Managing Directors of the new company will be Hubert Diener as Chairman and Stephan Hoffmann. Hubert Diener was previously the Head of the Special Production Department at Tognum’s subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen and Stefan Hoffmann was CFO of Aggretech.

MTU Detroit Diesel Changes Name to Tognum America

MTU Detroit Diesel Inc. announced a name change to Tognum America Inc., effective June 1, 2011. Tognum America, like MTU Detroit Diesel before, is a subsidiary of the Germany-based Tognum Group and is responsible for the sales and service of MTU engines and MTU Onsite Energy distributed energy systems in North and Latin America. Tognum America has offices in Detroit, Houston, Washington DC, San Leandro, CA; St. Rose, LA; Miami, FL and Mankato, MN. The company also operates two state-of-the-art production facilities: one in Mankato, MN for diesel and gas-based generator sets and one in Aiken, SC where it currently machines parts and builds MTU Series 2000 and 4000 engines.

Tognum Completes First Quarter as Expected

The specialist for propulsion and power solutions Tognum has completed the first three months of the current financial year in line with expectations and confirms its forecast for the full year. “Despite the modest quarterly revenues as expected, we managed to achieve an adjusted EBIT margin of 8.4%,” said Volker Heuer, chairman of the executive board of Tognum AG. The company continues to expect an adjusted EBIT margin (adjusted return on sales) of 6 to 9%, with revenues of €2.3 to 2.5 billion. In the medium term, Tognum intends to grow faster than the market and achieve a double-digit return on sales. “We are currently observing positive signs, primarily in our after sales business, in the oil and gas industry and in distributed energy systems,” Heuer added.

First Ship with High Temperature Fuel Cell

September 2009 saw the initial operation of the first high temperature fuel cell to be run on board of a ship, within the FellowSHIP research project (Fuel Cells for Low Emission Ships). The HotModule supplied by the Tognum subsidiary MTU Onsite Energy GmbH Fuel Cell Systems is scheduled for service on the offshore supply vessel Viking Lady, operated by the Norwegian Eidesvik shipyard, so as to verify its suitability for green on-board power generation by means of fuel cells.

Wärtsilä Role in FellowSHIP Project

Wärtsilä has been assigned overall responsibility for systems integration in the pioneering FellowSHIP project. Wärtsilä's specially designed equipment is being used to integrate and create synergies between marine technology and state-of-the-art fuel cell technology. The equipment has been installed onboard the platform supply vessel Viking Lady for extensive sea tests. The innovative solution is seen as being an important contributor in the development of environmentally sustainable marine propulsion systems.

Tognum 2008 Results & 2009 Outlook

Tognum, a specialist for propulsion and power solutions, reported its 2008 results and 2009 outlook. In the financial year 2009, the financial and economic crisis will also have a negative impact on Tognum’s markets and its business performance. However, the company does expect to see a return to sustained growth rates in the medium term resulting once again in double-digit EBIT margins on average. “In 2009, our successful business model will face completely new challenges,” stated Volker Heuer, chairman of Tognum AG’s Executive Board. “In terms of our revenues for 2009, we anticipate scenarios of 2 minus 10 to minus 20 percent compared with 2008.
