Saab Sea Giraffe Naval Radar

Users of the Saab Sea Giraffe naval radar are meeting this week in San Diego to share their experiences with the operation and support of the Sea Giraffe family of naval surveillance radars. The radar is well suited for small combatants, and has been installed aboard corvettes and frigates, patrol boats, and the littoral combat ship, and is in service or selected for installation with 12 navies around the world. Austal and General Dynamics Extend Agreement

Shipbuilders Austal link with advanced information system provider General Dynamis, seek naval orders. The agreement between the two companies is aimed to combine Austal’s shipbuilding, systems and support capabilities with General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems’ expertise in systems integration to support future shipbuilding and sustainment programs. Austal’s Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Bellamy, said the agreement would enable the companies to provide best value offerings to the marketplace.

Austal Awarded U.S. Navy LCS 8 Contract

The U.S. Navy announced a fixed price incentive contract for the construction of a fourth 127-meter trimaran Independence-class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS 8) valued at $368.6m. This is the second ship awarded under Austal’s recently announced U.S. Navy contract for construction of up to an additional 10 Littoral Combat Ships to be appropriated in the following five years, with a total value in excess of $3.5b. Once commissioned, these 10 ships will join the Austal-built USS Independence (LCS 2) which was commissioned in January 2010.
