Cobham SATCOM Announces Software Upgrade

Cobham SATCOM has announced the launch of its latest software upgrade for SAILOR 4300 L-Band, the first terminal in Cobham’s portfolio of Iridium Certus Connected range solutions. Marlink Re-launches Sealink C-band VSAT Service

Marlink has re-launched its Sealink C-band VSAT service, this time introducing new price and service plans, enabling easier integration with existing and future Ka and Ku-band VSAT services. According to Marlink, the upgrade gives Sealink C-band VSAT users more flexibility to add alternative VSAT frequencies to their network in order to ensure availability of high-speed critical business and operational applications globally. The new Sealink C-band provides customers with a transparent and cost-efficient way of integrating existing C-band services with flexible Ka and Ku-band VSAT.

Stena Line Ferry Joins Marlink's Multi-band Comms Network

Marlink has added the first out of four additional Stena Line ships to its multi-band communications network. Marlink now serves the entire fleet of Stena Line vessels, ensuring high levels of connectivity for passengers and crew, in addition to operational applications and commercial businesses on board. Marlink will also further increase available capacity to Stena Line vessels with an additional 10-15%, following the tripled bandwidth increase in June 2016, ensuring that Stena Line can meet the on-going growth in demand for bandwidth at sea.

JLT Mobile Computers Selected by DCT Gdansk

JLT Mobile Computers has delivered 47 of its JLT VERSO+ 10 rugged mobile vehicle computers with the most compact form factor in its class to the new T2 deep-water terminal at DCT Gdansk in Poland. Located in the heart of the Baltic, DCT Gdansk is Poland’s largest container facility, and the only deep-water terminal in the Baltic Sea region. The rugged mobile vehicle computers, supplied by IT systems engineering company and JLT partner Autepra, have been installed on Kalmar T2 terminal tractors. Running industry leading Navis N4 Terminal Operating System (TOS) software, they form part of a larger development program undertaken by DCT to open a second 650 m long, deep-water berth at the T2 terminal, which will double the handling capacity of DCT Gdansk to 3M TEU per year.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Equipment during its 2012, 56th session submitted a draft revised code on noise levels onboard ships. The code set out mandatory noise level limits for machinery spaces, control rooms, workshops, cargo blocks and accommodation spaces in an effort to address health and safety issues on board ships, ATB’s and/or tugboats.

Globe Wireless GlobeSwift Yacht Product Line

Globe Wireless has introduced GlobeSwift, a line of communications equipment, airtime, applications and IT services for the yacht market. Globe Wireless provides communications and IT service for over 9,000 commercial ships. The GlobeSwift product line brings services to the pleasure yacht market, while recognizing that the requirements of yacht owners and managers are much different than traditional commercial maritime users. He continued, “We can now offer customers a 1M Ku band and 60cm Mini-Ku VSAT systems. Globe Wireless also provides customers with a full suite of IT and operational applications including GlobeWeather, GlobeForms, and Globe AntiVirus.

Nominees For CITIS 2002 Awards Announced

Providers in the communications and IT in shipping sector have been short-listed for innovation honors in the CITIS 2002 Awards. Winners will be announced at a gala dinner during the sixth CITIS event -hosted and sponsored by Inmarsat in London from March 18-22 - which also features a conference, seminars and an exhibition. The dinner will take place on March 19 at the Underglobe in Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. In addition to awards in four commercial categories, International Maritime Organization secretary general William O’Neil is to receive a lifetime achievement award for steering the introduction of the Global Maritime Distress & Safety System.

STG Wins $9.5 Million USCG Contract

STG, Inc. (STG) announced that it has won a five-year, $9.5m award from the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Operations Systems Center (OSC). Under this contract, STG will provide Help Desk Support Services for proprietary software products used by the Coast Guard for its varied missions. The OSC develops, maintains, fields and supports most USCG-unique operational applications that directly support USCG’s mission. The Customer Support Division (CSD) directly supports more than 25 of these systems and acts as a single point of contact for support on all OSC systems. For the past nine years, STG has been providing superior help desk services for the users of these mission-critical applications.
