Hepburn and Sons Adds Senior Naval Talent

MOL Safety Conference 2017 Held in Four Cities

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has announced that from late February through late March, the company held MOL Safety Conference 2017 programs, targeting MOL Group seafarers, in four locations worldwide. The cities were Split (Croatia), Mumbai (India), Manila (The Philippines) and Tokyo (Japan). Senior Managing Executive Officer Captain Masaaki Nemoto, who also serves as Director General of Safety Operations Headquarters, and many other MOL executives and staff members also participated in the conferences. Along with managers from in-house ship management companies and manning companies, they led active discussions of actual incidents and work-related accidents. The Japan P&I Club was invited to the conferences in Manila and Tokyo to enlighten seafarers about healthcare issues.

Dryad Maritime Risk Analysis, 'A Maritime Nation'

Dryad Maritime have featured in a special programme ‘A Maritime Nation’ commissioned by the UK Chamber of Shipping, introduced by national newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky and produced by ITN Productions. The current affairs programme aired this week as part of London International Shipping Week and looks at the role and value of shipping to the UK through interviews and sponsored editorials with some of the UK’s leading shipping companies. ClassNK Reports Record 2014

Announcing its registration totals for 2014, ClassNK said 833 new vessels with a combined total of 21,466,272 gt joined its register over the course of the year, marking the fourth straight year that the classification society registered over 20 million in new tonnage. ClassNK noted that its growth in 2014 comes in spite of a global downturn in the market which has seen newbuilding deliveries fall by an estimated 15% according to Clarkson Research Services. Led by continued strength in the newbuilding markets, ClassNK registered a total of 548 newbuildings with a combined total of over 16 million gt, or more than 25% of all newly built tonnage in 2014 based on Clarkson’s figures.

ClassNK Updates Ship Maintenance Checklist

ClassNK has released the latest version of Good Maintenance Onboard Ships (January, 2015), a checklist designed to be used by shipmasters, crew, shipowners and other key personnel to ensure vessels are safe, well-maintained and comply with regulations. To further improve the quality and efficiency of maintenance onboard ships, ClassNK said it has incorporated its knowledge and experience gained through surveys and audits, feedback from Port State Control (PSC) inspections, and comments from shipowners and mariners to provide the most up-to-date checklists for Routine Maintenance, PSC Inspections, Safety Management Systems, Ship Security Management Systems, as well as photos of the most common deficiencies.

ClassNK Expands Joint Research in Europe

Classification society ClassNK announced that it will join a new European Joint R&D project to ensure bulk carrier safety. The project, called LiquefAction, aims to better understand the physical properties of cargo liquefaction in order to prevent bulk carrier casualties and is being carried out by a consortium of Europe’s top research institutions, including Germany’s Hamburgische Schiffbau-Versuchsanstalt (HSVA) and Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), as well as France’s  Ecole Central de Nantes (ECN) and the Institute of Science and Technology for Transport…

Effective October 1, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) will implement changes to its Technology & Innovation Headquarters and Global Business Planning & Operations Headquarters. Topping the list of changes is the establishment of a new "Global Business Innovation Department" integrating the functions of the two headquarters. Greene’s Energy Names Lang Regional Manager

Greene’s Energy Group (GEG) named David Lang as Mid-Continent Regional Manager for the Testing and Services business unit, announced President Eric Langlinais. Based in Lafayette, La., Lang will provide leadership, direction and operational support to the facility managers in the Bossier City, La.; Kilgore, Texas; Ardmore and Weatherford, Okla.; Ft. Smith and Conway, Ark.; and Dodge City, Kan. facilities. Prior to his new role, Lang was Store Manager for Eagle Oilfield Services, a subsidiary of Greene’s Energy Group.

MOL Safety Conference 2013 Held in Four Cities

The event opened with a strong message from MOL Chairman Akimitsu Ashida and President Koichi Muto, who said, "Safe operation is key to winning credibility and trust from our customers in the severe business environment surrounding our company. Greene's Energy Promote Jaret Garber

Jaret Garber has been promoted to the position of Financial Manager of Testing and Services. Based in Lafayette, La., Garber will manage financial reporting and analysis of testing and services. This includes management of invoices, financial planning, analysis and division financial performance and monthly closing. Additionally, Garber will be responsible for cost control management; bonus plans and earn-outs; mergers and acquisitions; and balance sheets. Prior to promotion, Garber was the Financial Analyst and Fleet Administrator.

Swire Oilfield Services Expands in North America

Swire Oilfield Services (Swire), has reinforced its commitment to growth with a significant investment in its North American operations, as part of the company’s global  $150 million investment this year. The company entered the Gulf of Mexico in 2007 with the establishment of an operations headquarters in Houma, Louisiana. Since then it has expanded with nine new facilities across the Gulf coast and North America, including Port Fourchon, Morgan City and Lafayette in Louisiana; Galveston, Three Rivers, Carrizo Springs and Midland/Odessa in Texas; Kenai, Alaska; Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago and a new corporate office in The Woodlands, Texas.

ClassNK Reorganizes Management Team

Classification society ClassNK has announced that it will reorganize its Board of Directors as part of a larger corporate reorganization, effective July 1, 2011. As part of the reorganization, ClassNK’s four current Managing Directors -- Shosuke Kakubari, Koichi Fujiwara, Takuya Yoneya, and Yasushi Nakamura -- will be promoted to Executive Vice Presidents and take up positions alongside current Executive Vice Presidents Hiroshige Kitada and Toshitomo Matsui. In addition to the promotion of the four executives, ClassNK will also establish a new second tier of Operating Officers who will oversee the day to day operations of the 110 year old classification society. MOL Launches Training Vessel

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. launched its first training vessel, the Spirit of MOL, at the Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Company in Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture. Executives on hand for the launching and christening ceremonies included MOL Deputy President and Director-General of Safety Operations Headquarters Hidehiro Harada. The company will start practical training aboard the vessel in mid-July. The vessel has a training bridge on floor above the actual bridge. MOL also has about 10 full-time instructors, who will provide education and practical training to 180 trainees per session. MOL cadets of the same level of training from different nations (the Philippines, India, Russia, Vietnam, China, Indonesia, etc.), will train onboard together.
