Indian PM Inaugurates Mundra LNG Terminal In Gujarat

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Mundra LNG terminal that has been developed in keeping with his emphasis on clean energy.He said that the inauguration of the LNG terminal is the highlight of today's programme. I am fortunate to have inaugurated three LNG terminals, he added.Narendra Modi said that when Gujarat got its first LNG terminal, people were surprised. Now, the State is poised to make a fourth LNG terminal, he added.Gujarat is emerging as an LNG hub of India, the Prime Minister said, adding that this should make every Gujarati proud. Asserting that a strong energy sector is needed for the growth of any country, the Prime Minister said that we cannot alleviate poverty if we are energy poor.

Droning on About Innovation

The lunchtime displays are the brainchild of the naval engineering community. Marketed as a ‘launch pad’, the displays provide opportunity to challenge and innovate through a series of cutting edge demonstrations where industry and innovators can showcase their technologies and ideas. Navy combined with the Defence Capability and Sustainment Group work with BAE Systems and Thales Australia to deliver seaworthy guided missile frigates and the group is committed to embracing new ways of thinking and new technologies.

Submarine Optical Fibre Cable to Link Andamans, Mainland India

India's government has decided to build a submarine cable between the city of Chennai and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, which is  about 200km east of India, way out in the Bay of Bengal. The estimated cost of the project, which is Rs 1,102.38 crore ($164,5 million) includes operational expenses for 5 years, and is likely to be completed by December 2018. The project would allow the implementation of e-governance initiatives; establishment of enterprises and e-commerce facilities in the islands. As of now the telecom service in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands (ANI) is dependent only on satellite connectivity and the bandwidth of which is limited to 1 GBPS only. “Lack of bandwidth and telecom connectivity is hampering socio-economic development of the islands.

Global Offshore Pipeline Market by Region 1997-2006

The installation of almost 50,000 km of pipeline is forecast over the next five years in the new second edition of The World Offshore Pipelines and Umbilicals Report 2002-2006, published today by leading offshore analysts Douglas-Westwood and offshore data specialists Infield Systems. According to the report’s lead author, Dominic Harbinson of Douglas-Westwood, “This total represents an increase of 44 percent over the previous 5-year period, and will require a global Capex of almost $53.6 billion. Three regions dominate the market, accounting for almost 60 percent of forecast pipeline lengths and over half of forecast global Capex.” The three regions are: North West Europe (with a forecast spend of $11.4 billion), Asia Pacific ($9.5 billion) and the US Gulf of Mexico ($8.2 billion).
