Hunter Maritime Terminates Tender Offer for Bulkers

Marshall Islands based Hunter Maritime Acquisition revealed it has “mutually agreed” with Germany’s Oskar Wehr to terminate the master agreement and the memoranda of agreement (MOA) related to the acquisition of five Capesize dry bulk carriers. The Tender Offer expired on June 9, 2017, and as of that time, certain conditions to the consummation of the Tender Offer and the Acquisition were not satisfied, including the condition that not more than 8,233,100 Class A common shares shall have been validly tendered and not properly withdrawn at the Expiration Date. "As a result, the Company and the Sellers mutually agreed to terminate the Master Agreement and the MOA relating to the Acquisition in accordance with their respective terms and conditions," said a statement from the company.

Hunter Buys Five Capsize Bulkers

Hunter Maritime Acquisition Corp. said it has entered into definitive agreements pursuant to which it has agreed to purchase, for an aggregate purchase price of $139.4 million in cash, five identified Capesize dry bulk carriers in an en-bloc transaction from five Cyprus-based companies affiliated with one or more members of the Oskar Wehr group of companies of Hamburg, Germany. The vessels were built by Chinese shipyard New Times Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. and consist of MV Charlotte Selmer (2011), MV Greta Selmer (2011), MV Tom Selmer (2011), MV Lene Selmer (2010) and MV Hugo Selmer (2010). The vessels have a combined cargo-carrying capacity of approximately 876,352 deadweight tons and an average fleet age of approximately 6.2 years.

Shippers Avoid New "pirate hotspot" west of Philippines

Piracy has surged in Sulu, Celebes Seas; waters part of route carrying iron ore to Asia. A surge in piracy to the west of the Philippines is forcing shipowners to divert vessels through other waters, stoking their costs and extending the time it takes to transport goods such as Australian iron ore to key Asian destinations. There have been 16 attacks since last March on ships in the Sulu and Celebes Seas, through which about $40 billion worth of cargo passes each year, according to the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP). That government-backed anti-piracy organisation says over a dozen crew are currently being held hostage by Filipino Abu Sayyaf militants, all from ships sailing through the Sulu and Celebes Seas.

Kvaerner's Warnow Yard Lands $70.1 Million Contract

Anglo-Norwegian engineering group Kvaerner ASA said on Friday that its German shipyard Warnow had won a contract worth 640 million crowns ($70.1 million) to build two container ships for Oskar Wehr. Kvaerner said in a statement that Oskar Wehr, based in Hamburg, had also ordered two similar ships from the yard in August. The two extra vessels, of the Warnov CV 2500 design, would be delivered in the first and second quarters of 2002.

Kvaerner Lands $67.7 Million Containership Contract

Anglo-Norwegian engineering group Kvaerner said on Wednesday it had won a contract valued at 627 million crowns ($67.7 million) from Hamburg-based Oskar Wehr GmbH to build two containerships. Kvaerner said in a statement its German subsidiary Kvaerner Warnow in Rostock would build the two ships for delivery in the third and fourth quarter 2002. Kvaerner said the contract comes on top of an existing contract to deliver four similar ships to Oskar Wehr. The containerships, which will measure 682 ft. (208 m) with a dwt of approximately 33,600 tons, each have a capacity of more than 2,500 containers, the statement said.
