Hamburg Süd Remains Hamburg Süd

Hamburg Süd remains a commercially independent brand under new owner – Significantly greater product range through global service network – Own sales force provides unchanged level of care to Hamburg Süd customers. With yesterday’s (November 30) closing, the Hamburg Süd Group is now part of the Danish company Maersk Line and thus a subsidiary of the world’s market leader in container shipping. “Under this new umbrella, we can strengthen Hamburg Süd’s position worldwide in a challenging market environment, improve our market position, and offer our customers many advantages,” said Dr. Arnt Vespermann, new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Hamburg Süd. Maersk Completes Hamburg Süd Acquisition

The transaction between Oetker Group and Maersk Line for Maersk Line's acquisition of Hamburg Süd, the German container line, was closed on 30 November 2017. On 1 December 2016, Maersk Line announced its intention to acquire Hamburg Süd. The acquisition triggered a regulatory approval process in 23 jurisdictions which was successfully concluded on Tuesday 28 November with the approval of the acquisition by the Korea Fair Trade Commission. "With the final approval of the acquisition we have reached an important milestone in our strategy to become an integrated transport and logistics company delivering sustainable growth. These are truly exciting times and we are looking forward to taking the first steps forward as one company," says Søren Skou, CEO of A.P.

Maersk Line to acquire Hamburg Süd

Maersk Line and the Oetker Group have reached an agreement for Maersk Line to acquire Hamburg Süd, the German container shipping line. The acquisition is subject to final agreement and regulatory approvals. Hamburg Süd is the world's seventh largest container shipping line and a leader in the North - South trades. The company operates 130 container vessels with a container capacity of 625,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent). It has 5,960 employees in more than 250 offices across the world and market its services through the Hamburg Süd, CCNI (based in Chile) and Aliança (based in Brazil) brands. In 2015, Hamburg Süd had a turnover of USD 6,726 million of which USD 6,261 million stems from its container line activities. "Today is a new milestone in Maersk Line's history.

Hamburg Süd Reports Sustainably

Hamburg Süd is the first container shipping lines to publish its Sustainability Report in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G4 Standard Disclosures (Core). Entitled “Setting standards and acting sustainably”, the 84-page report sets out the key topics in the areas of environmental, social and economic responsibility for the 2014 and 2015 reporting period. “With the new Sustainability Report, Hamburg Süd is once again demonstrating that sustainable conduct is an indispensable part of its corporate philosophy. In compliance with the GRI G4 Standard Disclosures, we are presenting on a voluntary and transparent basis where we stand as regards sustainable behavior,” explains Dr. Ottmar Gast, Chairman of the Executive Board of Hamburg Süd.

BIMCO Declares Winners of Its 2015 Awards

Last night in Hamburg, BIMCO President Philippe Louis-Dreyfus chose to give public recognition to all seafarers who have been – and still are – involved in rescuing people in distress at sea. Mr. Louis-Dreyfus awarded the BIMCO President’s Award to Columbia Shipmanagement Hamburg, for their “outstanding” work in rescue operations involving migrant boats in the Mediterranean. He asked Captain Horber from Columbia Shipmanagement to accept the award on behalf of their crews, but also on behalf of all seafarers who risk their lives in rescue operations. Hamburg Süd Eyes Ocean Three Membership

UK- based shipping consultants Drewry said that it was only a matter of time before these carriers make the formal announcement that Hamburg Süd is to become a fully-fledged member of Ocean Three, or Ocean Four as it will presumably have to be re-named. Süd is teaming up with the Ocean Three alliance in a new service linking China with the US east coast via the Panama Canal as the German line moves closer to full membership of the collaboration, reports Lloyd's List. The growing service cooperation between Hamburg Süd and the Ocean Three carriers CMA CGM, CSCL and UASC is towards this direction. Unlike the other global alliances, Ocean Three is a more flexible group that allows members to team up with other carriers where appropriate.

Alianҫa’s Fleet Continues to Grow

The cabotage fleet of Hamburg Süd’s subsidiary Alianҫa has once again gained a new member. Within the scope of a customer event, the new container ship “Bartolomeu Dias” was christened on 14 April 2015 at the TECON Terminal in the southern-Brazilian port of Rio Grande. The ship’s sponsor is Luciana Pereira Quartiero. Her husband, Jacques Maggi Quartiero, is vice president of Camil Alimentos S.A. Hamburg-Sued Makes Profits

Despite a difficult market environment German container shipper Hamburg-Sued completed the year 2014 with a profit, says its chief executive Ottmar Gast.   The company had last year, 2.5 percent more transportation volume, but sales declined due to falling prices and exchange rate effects, despite increased margins from 5.2 billion to 5.1 billion euros.   "This year we will make 20 percent more volume and achieve a higher turnover than 2014," Ottmar said.   "We were profitable last year and that's also our goal for 2015," he said. A consolidation is not yet in sight. Since 2009 earning the container shipping has been struggling.

CMA CGM, Hamburg Süd Expand Cooperation

The CMA CGM Group and Hamburg Süd have reached an agreement to further enhance their cooperation, adding several new initiatives to the already existing joint services between North Europe and both East- and West coasts of South America. Hamburg Süd has been honored with the “Electrolux Supplier Award 2014” in the category “Global Logistics”. Presentation of the prize was held at Electrolux AB’s headquarters in Stockholm in mid-November. Dr Ottmar Gast, Chairman of the Executive Board of Hamburg Süd, and Philip Oetker, General Manager Commercial Region Europe, accepted the award on behalf of Hamburg Süd. Hamburg Süd was awarded top marks in quality of service, on-time delivery, performance, cost competitiveness and sustainability practices.

Hamburg Süd Headquarters Being Expanded

On 21 November 2014, Hamburg Süd laid the foundation stone for the extension to the shipping company’s headquarters in Hamburg. The new building is going up at Willy-Brandt-Straße (WBS) 63 and 65 on the plots adjacent to the traditional Hamburg Süd head office (WBS 59 and 61). The laying of the foundation stone was performed by Dr Ottmar Gast, Chairman of the Executive Board of Hamburg. True to long-standing tradition, a capsule containing coins and banknotes, a daily newspaper and Hamburg Süd time records was set into the foundations. UASC and Hamburg Süd Sign Cooperation Agreement

Hamburg Süd Seeks Options after Failed Hapag-Lloyd Merger Talks

Germany's second biggest container shipper Hamburg Süd is seeking options for the business after merger talks with bigger rival Hapag-Lloyd failed last year, Chief Executive Ottmar Gast said on Tuesday. "We are working on alternatives," Gast told reporters at the results news conference of Hamburg-Sued parent Oetker Group. Gast, who is part of the four-member management group of Oetker Group's holding company Dr. August Oetker KG, did not provide details, noting only that "size isn't everything".

Alianca Holds Naming Ceremony for New Container Ship

With the Fernão de Magalhães, Aliança has christened the second of four identical new container ships for its cabotage fleet. The Naming Ceremony was held on September 26 at the container port of Porto Chibatão on the Rio Negro in Manaus. The Sponsor of the ship is Dionéia Thomas, the wife of Julian Thomas, who is General Manager Region South America East Coast of Hamburg Süd and Aliança. Dr. h.c. August Oetker, Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Oetker Group and Partner of Dr. August Oetker KG, and Dr. Ottmar Gast, Chairman of the Executive Board of Hamburg Süd, also took part in the ceremony. With the container ship “Fernão de Magalhães” the Hamburg Süd subsidiary Aliança is continuing to modernize its cabotage service fleet.

Germany's Hamburg Süd Group has recently published its first Responsibility Report titled 'Making it our Business'. The report documents not only the ecological but also the social and societal responsibility the company exercises. Hamburg Süd Aims for 26 PCT Cut in CO2e Emissions

Hamburg Süd is pressing ahead vigorously with its commitment to environmental protection. The shipping group thus decided recently to set itself an objectively measurable environmental target: by 2020 Hamburg Süd is aiming to reduce the CO2e emissions of its owned and chartered container vessels per unit of transport capacity (TEUkm) by 26 per cent. Hamburg Süd Christnes Santa Clara in Durban

On Monday, 28 February 2011, Hamburg Süd christened the Santa Clara in Durban, South Africa. She was delivered at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. (DSME) in Korea in October last year as the first of ten identical container vessels, each with a slot capacity of 7,100 TEU. This makes her not only one of the largest ships ever built for Hamburg Süd, but also, thanks to her 1,600 reefer plugs, one of the ships with the greatest reefer capacity currently available worldwide. Sponsor of the Santa Clara was Margot Blume-Gast, wife of Dr Ottmar Gast, Chairman of the Executive Board of Hamburg Süd. The Santa Clara is named after a Hamburg Süd cargo steamer deployed between Europe and South America in the 1920s.
