Langh Ship Orders Three New Ships

Finnish shipping company Langh Ship announced it has ordered three 7,800 dwt newbuild cargo ships from Wuhu Shipyard in China.The first vessel is expected to be delivered in summer 2023 followed by its two sisters soon thereafter.The vessels will operate in a regular service between Outokumpu’s steel mills in northern Finland and the Netherlands. Polaris Bunkered in Finland

The world’s first LNG-fueled icebreaker, Polaris, received liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel in January from the Pori LNG import terminal and in February from the Manga LNG terminal located in the Röyttä Harbor in Tornio, Finland. Finland's Manga LNG Terminal Gets First Cargo

The first shipload of liquefied natural gas (LNG) arrival to the LNG import terminal in Tornio, Finland, on Sunday November 19, 2017. The Manga LNG natural gas import terminal in Röyttä Harbor, Tornio, is a joint venture of the industrial companies Outokumpu and SSAB Europe, the energy company EPV Energy and the LNG company Skangas. LNG was shipped to the terminal by Coral Energy, a time-chartered LNG carrier operated by Skangas. Wärtsilä to Begin Building LNG Terminal in January

Wärtsilä has been given full notice to proceed (NTP) from Manga LNG Oy for the supply of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Tornio, Northern Finland. Wärtsilä will commence construction on the site near the port of Tornio in January 2015. Manga LNG Oy is a joint venture of Outokumpu Group, Svenskt Stål AB (SSAB), Skangass and EPV Energy Ltd. Wärtsilä initially announced this project in January 2014. The order, valued at approximately EUR 100 million, will be included in Wärtsilä's order intake in December 2014.

Wärtsilä has been given full notice to proceed (NTP) from Manga LNG Oy for the supply of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Tornio, Northern Finland. Wärtsilä will commence construction on the site near the port of Tornio in January 2015. Manga LNG Oy is a joint venture of Outokumpu Group, Svenskt Stål AB (SSAB), Skangass and EPV Energy Ltd. Wärtsilä initially announced this project in January 2014. The order, valued at approximately EUR 100 million, will be included in Wärtsilä's order intake in December 2014. The turnkey delivery of the first import terminal supplied by Wärtsilä includes complete unloading, storing and regasification equipment for LNG. The capacity of the LNG storage tank will be 50 000 cubic metres.

Finland Grants Support to Three Small LNG Terminals

The Finnish government granted 65.2 million euros (84.22 million US dollar) in subsidies to build three small liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals to cut on use of fuel oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in industry, the economy ministry said on Thursday. Finland is building a network of LNG terminals along its coastline, expecting that LNG will be increasingly used as a shipping fuel in the Baltic Sea. "With the help of this support, Manga LNG Oy, Skangass Oy, and Oy Aga Ab will build LNG terminals in Tornio, Pori and Rauma respectively," the ministry said in a statement. Manga LNG is a joint venture, which includes Finnish stainless steel maker Outokumpu Oyj.

Wärtsilä to Provide Turnkey LNG Receiving Terminal in N. Finland

Wärtsilä says it has signed a turnkey contract to supply a liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal to be built in Tornio, northern Finland. The contract, valued at approximately EUR 100 million, has been made with Manga LNG Oy, a joint venture between the Finnish companies Outokumpu Group, Ruukki Metals Oy, Gasum Oy and EPV Energy Ltd. The contract is conditional on receipt of investment support and Manga LNG Oy's contracts with other parties, including the gas suppliers.

Energy Efficiency, Vessel Versatility Central in Future Maritime Transportation

The future dry cargo vessel must be able to adjust quickly to changing transportation needs. The Finnish industrial production structure is anticipated to change and therefore maritime transportation ought to be tighter integrated to production chains. The cargo ship must be versatile and flexible as the transportation needs and cargo types may change within short time intervals. In light of energy efficiency, LNG is considered the best near future marine fuel alternative. These results are presented in three individual Master´s thesis produced at Aalto University. Based on a comprehensive analysis of the Finnish international maritime transport volume development and change factors of the industrial and operational environment, an optimal future vessel concept was established.

Strike Halts Steelmaking and Shipbuilding in Finland

Companies affected by the strike launched by about 3,000 members of the Finnish Union of Salaried Employees (TU) told the Finnish News Agency (STT) that the industrial action would have an impact within just days. Juha Heikinheimo, the head of the cruise and ferries division of Norwegian shipbuilder Aker Yards, said the company's Finnish yards, with a total workforce of about 4,000 people, would grind to a halt in a day or a couple of days. Outokumpu said its stainless steel production would halt very quickly while Rautaruukki, another Finnish steelmaker, assured that it could carry on with production but would have to shut down hot rolling and cutting lines. Boliden said production at its Finnish sites would continue thanks to extraordinary measures.
