Australian Report Backs Coastal Shipping to Boost Supply Chain Security

Royal Wagenborg renewed and extended Castor Marine’s Global Ku VSAT connection for multiple years.Since 1898 the Dutch family-owned shipping company has been crossing the oceans, evolving to a fleet operator with about 200 vessels. Besides the extension of 52 Global Ku VSAT contracts, Castor Marine will equip an additional 15 Wagenborg vessels, currently on 4G, with VSAT. For more than eight years the company has provided VSAT, Iridium, Inmarsat FBB, and IT services to the Wagenborg fleet.

Iranian Cargo Ship Attacked in the Red Sea

An Iranian cargo ship has come under attack in the Red Sea, Al Arabiya TV reported on Tuesday, quoting unnamed sources, and semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim said the vessel was targeted by a limpet mine.Al Arabiya cited the sources as saying the vessel was attacked off the coast of Eritrea and was affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, but provided no evidence to support the assertion.Tasnim identified the ship as the Iran Saviz. “The vessel Iran Saviz has been stationed in the Red Sea for the past few years to support Iranian commandos sent on commercial vessel (antipiracy) escort missions,” it reported.Reuters could not independently verify the report.

Israel Says It Tracked Down the Ship Linked to Recent Oil Spill

Israel accused Iran on Wednesday of being linked to a recent oil spill off its shores that caused major ecological damage, calling the incident environmental terrorism.The spill was caused by an oil tanker that was carrying pirated cargo from Iran to Syria last month, Israeli Environmental Protection Minister Gila Gamliel said.The vessel sailed through the Gulf and the Red Sea without radio contact, switching its tracking devices back on before passing through Egypt's Suez Canal, Gamliel told reporters.It turned the devices off again before entering Israeli waters in the eastern Mediterranean, and dropped oil into the sea between Feb.

4 Major Lines Jointly Launches EMA Services

Meriaura Aims for Zero-Waste Fleet

Finnish family owned shipping company is taking steps to cut vessel emissions through the use of bio-oil and low sulphur fuel, with its plans to create a zero-waste fleet in the future.Meriaura has been working with the Finnish Transport Safety Agency TRAF on a study looking at ways of reducing ship-generated waste. The group announced a research cooperation with TRAF in the end of 2018, aiming to reduce ship-generated waste.Meriaura has also joined Suomen Uusioraaka-aineliitto (Alliance of Finnish Raw Material Recycling).The recycled raw material alliance promotes the procurement, processing and use of recycled materials in an economically and environmentally sustainable manner.

New COSCO Service Between UK, Europe, Russia

Chinese state-owned shipping and logistics services supplier company COSCO Shipping Lines announced a new COSCO feeder service from St Petersburg, Russia will begin calling at DP World Southampton."COSCO is to introduce a new weekly call at DP World Southampton, as part of a rotation including St Petersburg, Russia; Kotka, Finland; Southampton, UK; and Rotterdam, Netherlands," said a press release.The news comes after COSCO confirmed in February that DP World Southampton will be a permanent call on its feeder service. Aalto Shipping Company Acquires New Ship

The Finnish Aalto Shipping Company started its operations in spring 2018. The Taaleri Group owned shipping firm acquired two modern ice-strengthened dry bulk carriers for its fleet and started operating them under the Finnish flag.A new ice-strengthened vessel will be transferred to Aalto Shipping Company’s ownership in September, and it has been chartered for several years starting in October.The ship will operate mainly in the Baltic Sea and North Sea; it has excellent cargo capacity and can manage well even in difficult Nordic Sea ice conditions.
