Yang Ming Sets-up Shop in China

Taiwanese ocean shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation has formed a new subsidiary with un-named partners in Shanghai named Huan Ming (Shanghai) International Shipping Agency.The subsidiary will begin operating on 1st January, 2020. Huan Ming will act as Yang Ming’s general agent in China. With the establishment of Huan Ming, Yang Ming is confident that its image will be further strengthened and the resources in China better integrated to reasonably reduce operating costs and improve operating efficiency.China accounts for a large share of Yang Ming’s total cargo volume. HMM Takes Top Spot in Schedule Reliability

South Korea's Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) toped highest on-time performance among 15 global carriers in June.According to the ‘Global Liner Performance Report – July 2019’, issued by SeaIntelligence, HMM ranked the most reliable carrier in June 2019 with a score of 91.8 percent - improved 8.2 percent points compared to last month.HMM’s performance was also 8.3 percent points higher than global average of 83.5 percent.

Box Shippers Form Asia-focused Ocean Alliance

France's CMA CGM and China's COSCO Container Lines are to form a four-way vessel-sharing alliance with Evergreen Line and Orient Overseas Container Line focused on Asia routes, CMA CGM said on Wednesday. Container shipping has seen route-sharing develop in response to a severe downturn in the market, and a rejigging of alliances had been expected in recent months after COSCO merged with China Shipping Group and CMA CGM agreed to acquire Singapore's Neptune Orient Lines (NOL).

Remote Medical Embarks on $8 Million Expansion

When a worker on a remote island in the South Pacific had a heart attack, a physician and a nurse were there from Remote Medical International to treat his symptoms. Within hours, Remote Medical operations specialists back at the company’s Seattle headquarters secured a plane and a crew to fly the man 2,400 miles to a Honolulu hospital for treatment, where he survived. A U.S. medical station in Antarctica wanted to consolidate from multiple subcontractors into a seamless, integrated operation. Remote Medical set up 24-hour telemedicine consultants for physicians on the ground and built two ambulances custom-designed for the arctic conditions.

Carnival Corporation appoints Costa Cruises Chairman Pier Luigi Foschi to oversee the company's growth strategies within the Asian region. In his role as chairman and chief executive officer of the new Carnival Asia unit, Foschi will be responsible for establishing Carnival Corporation & plc's new corporate offices in Singapore and providing guidance and assistance to the organization's various operating units in pursuing their Asian cruise strategies. Currently, Carnival Corporation & plc's Asia operations include two Costa Cruises ships based in China and Singapore and Princess Cruises' Sun Princess, which will launch a series of voyages from Japan next spring.

KVH Q4 2009 Results

KVH Industries, Inc., (NASDAQ:KVHI) reported financial results for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2009. Revenue for the fourth quarter of 2009 was $26.3 million, up 24% from the quarter ended December 31, 2008. Net income for the period was $1.8 million, or $0.13 per diluted share. During the same period last year the company reported net income of $0.3 million or $0.02 per diluted share. For the year ended December 31, 2009, revenue was $89.1 million, up 8% compared to $82.4 million for the year ended December 31, 2008. KVH reported a net loss of $0.1 million or $0.01 per share for 2009. During the same period last year, the company reported net income of $3.1 million or $0.21 per diluted share.

Aboitiz Transport Sells 2 Ships

Aboitiz Transport System Corp., the transportation arm of Cebu-based conglomerate Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc., is selling two vessels for $39m, with the first already delivered to the buyer, Pacific Asia Shipping Co. Ltd., a Marshall Islands-registered company. The company, in a disclosure to the stock exchange, said the delivery of the vessel formed part of the memorandum of agreement it entered with Pacific Asia Shipping regarding the sale of SuperFerry 17 and SuperFerry 18. The delivery of the second vessel is scheduled in the first quarter of 2007, the company told the stock exchange. To ensure continued operations, the company has brought back its SuperFerry 19 vessel it chartered out earlier this year.
