Hempel Opens First Factory S. America

With the opening of its 24th factory, the first in South America, Hempel will be better placed to serve the rapidly growing South American market. The new plant will mean shorter lead times for customers and will enable Hempel to develop and customize products to meet local environmental legislation and standards. The new plant, located north of the Argentinian capital of Buenos Aires, will manufacture paint for the Marine and Protective Coatings segments and will supply the entire South American market. The 3,000 sq. m. facility is part of the ‘One Hempel – One Ambition’ growth strategy, and is one of three new plants scheduled to open around the world in 2012 and 2013.

Hempel Signs Paint Production Investment Agreement

The signing of an investment agreement between leading international coating supplier Hempel and local government officials in the Russian Ulyanovsk region marks an important milestone in the Hempel Group’s plans for its first Russian paint production facility. significantly increase our ability to service our customers in the region.” The new plant will feature the latest in environmentally-friendly coating production equipment technology, including a semi-automatic powder handling system, an automatic liquid dosing system and a solvent recovery unit.

Degussa Offers Biocidal Protection in Marine Coatings

Degussa now offers a series of anti-fouling algaecides proven effective in both freshwater and saltwater. Nuocide algaecides are environmentally friendly formulations engineered to prevent the build up of algae on surfaces below the water line. Their effectiveness in anti-fouling paints is based on continuous hydrolysis of active ingredients. The Nuocide series, such as 1051, are additives that may be incorporated during the paint production process. The anti-fouling algaecide may also be combine with copper compounds or other substances to control the growth of animal organisms in addition to algae. Degussa has designed Nuocide anti-fouling additives to control blue algae, green algae and diatoms at an economical loading level.
