Celsius Orders Two More LNG Carriers from Samsung
Celsius Tankers and partners have ordered two additional 180,000-cubic-meter-capacity (CBM) liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers from south Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI). The two new ships are scheduled to be delivered in 2024 and will enter into long term time charter with an energy major.According to Celsius, the new vesselsâ highly efficient design minimizes CO2 emissions and methane slip from operations via installation of air lubrication, optimization of hull shape and use of the best available paint system to reduce the vesselsâ friction in water.

Upon delivery during 2023 and 2024, the 180,000-cuboc-meter capacity newbuilds will enter into long-term time charters with Clearlake Shipping, a subsidiary of Gunvor Group Ltd.Celsius Tankers recently took delivery of the fourth and last LNG carrier from the previous series of 180,000-cubic-meter capacity XDF vessels ordered at Samsung Heavy Industries in 2018.
More Ecospeed Protection for Eckerö RoRo Ferry
In 2019 Finnish shipping company Eckerö coated the open cargo deck of their roro passenger ferry Finbo Cargo with Ecospeed. This was done to protect the deck against damage from cars and cargo. One year later the deck was still in excellent condition, in strong contrast to previous years. As a result, Eckerö decided to coat the ice belt and most of the hull with Ecospeed to offer it the same lasting protection.âWe coated the weather deck with good result,â said Daniel Olsén, Technical Manager with Eckerö Group.

DSDu Completes Refurbishment of Floating Dock
Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque (DSDu) has completed major refurbishment works to the yardâs floating dry dock. The dock, capable of taking vessels up to 180 meters in length and lifting 14,000 tonnes, is owned by the Port of Dunkerque (Grand Port Maritime de Dunkerque â GPMD) and is operated by DSDu. It is a major piece of ship repair infrastructure and an important part of the yardâs capability to repair and maintain a wide range of vessels. The dock has recently celebrated its thirtieth anniversary. It was built in 1986 in Germany and purchased by GPMD in 2001.

Barge manufacturer doubles production and reduces paint waste with new blast line. When the 600th barge launch was celebrated at Brownsville Marine Products (BMP) just south of Pittsburgh in November 2012, it marked the companyâs success at reviving a site with over 75 years of history. At the same time, the team also celebrated a facility ready for 21st Century marine vessel production, thanks to a radically modernized production line. Since taking over the site in 2005, the challenge for BMP was to meet the ambitious goal of producing the highest quality vessels at competitive prices.
New Ferry for Shenzhen Peng Xing
Designed for reduced fuel consumption at high speed and full load condition, the contract speed of 31.5 knots with only 2 x 1080 kW installed power was a challenge. The expected fuel reduction compared to similar vessels should be at least 15%. Due to weight control from both designer and builder, the vessel was built 5% lighter than estimated and with the outstanding performing of engines and jets, the average speed at full load condition was recorded at 32.8 knots, resulting in a reported fuel saving of 20%.

The award is given annually by SSPC to recognize exceptional coatings work performed on U.S. military ships, structures or facilities. Second Staten Island Ferry Ecospeed Application
Recently the underwater hull of m/v Sen. John J. Marchi, one of the ferries owned by Staten Island Ferries was coated with Ecospeed in Norfolk, Virginia, U.S.A. This is the second ferry owned by Staten Island Ferries that was given an Ecospeed treatment after m/v John Noblewas coated in Bridgeport, Connecticut last year. Ecospeed was also applied on one the companyâs fuel barges in Staten Island, New York earlier this year and a third ferry is planned to be coated later this year. Under normal operation, ferries have to drydock once a year to comply with classification regulations. During the busy tourist season these ferries need to be sailing so the best time for drydocking is the off season when there are fewer passengers.
Moose Boats Introduces the M3 Monohull
Moose Boats, an aluminum boat manufacturer, unveiled the new M3 mono-hull at MACC 2011. This boat was developed as an alternative to Moose Boatsâ existing M1 and M2 catamaran models, which have been available in the commercial marine market since 2000. The new Moose Boats M3 mono-hull is a smaller, more nimble alternative to our catamaran models. The M3 can be powered with a variety of propulsion options and can accommodate up to 900hp. This vessel is sturdy, agile and fast which makes it ideal for a variety of Patrol, Law Enforcement, SAR and Fire Fighting applications.
Vale Vessels to Use Hempel Coatings
Hempel recently signed a contract with Brazilian mining giant Vale, the worldâs largest iron ore producer, to supply coatings for a five-vessel conversion project. The Hempel fouling release coating HEMPASIL X3 was designed to help reduce vessel maintenance costs, fuel consumption and greenhouse gas and biocide emissions. Danish-based Hempel will supply 150,000 liters of HEMPASIL X3 or advanced tin-free antifoulings for Valeâs forthcoming five-vessel conversion project. Five of Valeâs Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) will be converted to Very Large Ore Carriers (VLOCs) at the Yulian Shipyard and at the Huraung Dan Dong Shipyard in China. Hempel has been working closely with Vale, who plans to extend its fleet of ships to 50 by the end of 2013.
Ecospeed Coating
Two months after a Canadian shipowner applied Ecospeed for the first time to one of his ro/ro vessels, he decided to send a second ro/ro ship into drydock in Las Palmas to have the old paint system on the underwater hull completely stripped off to bare steel to be replaced with Ecospeed. The Ecospeed system is designed to be applied in two homogeneous coats and the overcoating time is from three or four hours to weeks or months. It is designed to have a life expectancy of 25 years and is 100% non-toxic.
Gibdock Completes Boluda Tug Overhaul
Gibdock completed a complex propulsion system job, following the recent docking of the 57-ton bollard pull capacity Boluda group harbour tug Siroco. The 2001-built Siroco, which operates in the port of Algeciras, arrived in Gibraltar in early June for a one month docking that included the complete removal and overhaul of the two Voith Schneider Propeller (VSP) units onboard. As soon as the vessel was drydocked, it was jet washed with high pressure water and hand-scraped to remove marine growth in preparation for the VSP overhaul. The next task was to crop four access plates and two upright supports from the protective structure to allow access for Gibdock engineers so they could remove the VSP blades.
Damen Launches its Longest (120m) Pontoon Ever
Damen Shipyards announced that it launched the first of its newly designed Stan Pontoon (SPo) 12032. The SPo 12032 is the longest pontoon ever built by Damen and part of a series of 34 pontoons currently being built. In addition, Damen Pontoons & Barges has started building a second new design: the Damen Crane Barge (CBa) 6324, a transshipment barge for handling dry bulk and container operations.
