Babcock Starts Building First of Five Royal Navy Type 31 Frigates
Babcock has started construction of the first of five Royal Navy Type 31 frigates, HMS Venturer, at its Rosyth facility in the UK.After cutting the first steel on the program in September 2021, the traditional keel-laying event formally recognized the start of the build, including placing a specially commissioned coin under the keel. On completion of the ship, the coin will be presented to the Captain and crew. The ceremony was held in the new build hall, the Venturer Building, which forms part of a £60 million investment program, on top of an additional £100 million over the last ten years.

Babcock Sells Frigate Design Licence to Indonesia
Aerospace, defense and security company Babcock said it has secured the first export contract for its Arrowhead 140 (AH140) frigate through a design license agreement with PT PAL Indonesia (Persero), a state-owned enterprise that builds and maintains ships for military and commercial use from its facilities in Surabaya, Indonesia. POSCO Daewoo to Supply Marine Equipment to Indonesian Shipbuilder
POSCO Daewoo has signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to supply shipbuilding materials worth US$150 million to Penataran Angkatan Laut (PT PAL), Indonesia’s largest state-run shipbuilder, according to a report in Business Korea. Under the contract, the Korean trading company will supply engines and other parts necessary for shipbuilding, and its partner PT PAL is going to build 10 patrol boats and one combat support ship with the provided materials before delivering them to Indonesian ministries including the Indonesian Navy and the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. The 11 ships will be taken over by the Indonesian government once they are built.
DSME's First Export Submarine Goes to Indonesia
South Korean defense contractor Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) launched the first out of three Type 209/1400 Chang Bogo-class (a license-built variant of the 209) diesel-electric attack submarines for service in the Indonesian Navy. Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu and Navy chief of staff Admiral Ade Supandi visited South Korea to witness the unveiling of the submarines. “The unveiling was only ceremonial in nature, [it is important] for the Navy as the user to see that the product is ready,” Ade Supandi said in South Korea. DSME is building three submarines for the Indonesian Defence Ministry under a US$1,1 billion contract signed in 2011.

Pertamina Orders Six Oil Tankers
According to an August 9 report from The Jakarta Post, state oil and gas firm PT Pertamina has placed orders for six tankers for about $102m to support its fuel distribution across the archipelago. PT PAL Receives to Build Container Ships
State-owned shipbuilding company PT PAL Indonesia has received orders from a Thai shipping company for four container ships measuring 50,000 deadweight ton (DWT). The order from Thoresen Thai Agencies (TTA) is worth US$180 million, PT PAL General Engineering and Maintenance Director Herbadi Noviano said. Herbadi said the construction of the ships was to be completed in 2010-2013, adding that work could not start at once for the order as PT PAL had to honor contracts made earlier with other customers. PAL Indonesia Implements Tribon
PAL Indonesia has purchased the entire Tribon Shipbuilding system for design and production of ships at its shipyard in Surabaya. PAL Indonesia has chosen to implement the complete hull and outfitting applications of the Tribon system to increase the yard's automazation and efficiency. PAL Indonesia has more than 20 years of experience in designing, engineering and building commercial and naval ships. Some examples are passenger ships, tankers, bulk carriers, container ships, corvettes and fast patrol boats. PAL Indonesia has the largest shipbuilding facilities in Southeast Asia. The shipyard is equipped with modern panel lines, plasma cutting machines, and with a fully automated pipe bending and welding machine.
