MacGregor to Equip China’s New Polar Research Ship

The Polar Research Institute of China has ordered a new 14,300gt polar research vessel. Designed by Aker Arctic Finland, it will be the first vessel of its type to be built in China, though a shipyard has yet to be named. The 122.5-meter multifunctional icebreaker will be able to handle ice up to 1.5 meters thick, achieving a continuous icebreaking speed of two to three knots. It will have an endurance of 20,000 nautical miles and with a full 90-person crew, it will be able to cruise for 60 days without resupply.

Advanced MacGregor Technology for Polar Research Ship

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has won an order to supply MacGregor offshore cranes and a Triplex handling system for a 14,300gt polar research vessel being built for the Polar Research Institute of China. Designed by Aker Arctic Finland, it will be the first vessel of its type to be built in China; the shipyard has yet to be named. "Our ability to deliver tailor-made packages of equipment and a reputation for successful low temperature operations were key factors in winning this contract," says William Storvik, Shiptype Group Sales Manager, MacGregor Offshore Deck Machinery. "MacGregor products have a proven track record of performance in extreme environments, which makes them ideal for this type of vessel.

ABB Azipods Selected for First Chinese-built Icebreaker

ABB’s Azipod propulsion system will power a Chinese polar science research icebreaker, the first vessel of its type to be built in China. The Polar Research Institute of China ship will be fitted with two Azipod VI units with combined power of 15 MWs. Azipod features a built-in high-efficiency AC motor and fixed-pitch propeller mounted directly on the motor shaft. While mechanical thrusters have complex transmission with gears and shafts, the Azipod has only electrical cables between the power source and the electric motor.

ABS Exec Speaks at World Shipping Summit

ABS announced its participation in the World Shipping (China) Summit 2015, November 5-6, in Guangzhou, China, where ABS Senior Vice President and Chief Technology officer Howard Fireman spoke about changes in the global shipping industry. In his presentation in the morning Shipping Outlook Session on  November 6, Fireman shared his view of the issues industry will be addressing over the next few years. "Nobody can deny we are navigating through a challenging period in our industry," he said, "and this scenario will likely continue for some time.

Dynamic Positioning Training Center Launched in Shanghai

C-MAR, an international marine and offshore services provider, and the Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) has officially launched the Dynamic Positioning training facility (DPC-SMU) at a special ceremony in Shanghai. In the first joint venture of its kind, C-MAR will provide dynamic positioning (DP) training to Chinese nationals and vessel operators in the offshore oil and gas sector, bringing the company’s extensive experience and expertise to the world’s fastest growing maritime sector.

LYG-PSA Container Terminal Opening

LYG-PSA Container Terminal (LPCT) was officially opened today by Lianyungang Municipal Party Committee Member & Director-General of Lianyungang Port Authority Mr Wu Yi Qiao, Lianyungang Port Group (LPG) Chairman Mr Bai Li Qun and PSA International Group CEO Mr Tan Chong Meng. LPCT marks PSA International’s first collaboration with Lianyungang Port Group. The opening ceremony, which took place at the Jiangsu Haizhou Bay View Hotel in Lianyungang, China, was witnessed by over 200 distinguished guests from the ports and shipping industry and government agencies in Lianyungang. South China Shipyard Delivers Three Vessels

CIC Boluomiao Shipyard, Zhuhai, delivers 3 oil-spill response vessels to regional safety agency. Deputy general manager of Guangzhou Maritime Administration Bureau Lin zungui, deputy director of China Maritime Safety Administration Shen jixun, director Xiao weizhe and other managers of Boluomiao shipyard (CIC) attended the ceremony, which was hosted by secretary of the Party committee Zhang Kaiyi. The CIC Boluomiao Shipyard manager said that this delivery ceremony marked a new starting point for the shipyard.

China Shipyard Delivers Bulk Carrier

The 47, 500 dwt bulk carrier 'You Hao 1' delivered by China Shipping Industry (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. (CICJS). The bulk carrier for Shanghai Friendship Shipping was the first to be built by this shipbuilder and was delivered at the No.1 outfitting quay of CIC Changxing shipyard. The ceremony was hosted by Mr. Wang Yiling, the Executive Director of CICJS. The Secretary of the Party Committee of China Shipping Industry (CIC) Zhang Yibing extended a welcome address and Mr. Dong Wenxue, the Chairman of the Board of Shanghai Friendship Shipping responded with an address on behalf of the owner.

China Rongsheng Heavy Industries christened the first of two 380,000 DWT Very Large Ore Carriers built for Oman Shipping deliivers another of the same to Vale S.A. China Rongsheng Heavy Industries Group Holdings Limited today christened the first two 380,000 DWT Very Large Ore Carriers (“VLOC”) built for Oman Shipping Company S.A.O.C. (“Oman Shipping”). The vessels will set for sea trial and enter into the final delivery stage soon. In addition, the Group has also delivered the third 380,000 DWT VLOC to iron ore mining giant, Vale S.A. H.E. Dr.

Vinashin Gradually Stabilizes
