Nikolaus Schües Elected as BIMCO President

Fednav Orders 10 Bulk Carriers from Oshima

Canadian dry-bulk shipping company Fednav Limited on Thursday announced it has signed an agreement with Sumisho Marine Co., Ltd. (Sumitomo Corporation Group) and Oshima Shipbuilding to build 10 new oceangoing lakers. The ships will be built at Oshima shipyard in Japan, with the first vessel expected to be delivered in mid-2023.The new Fednav-Oshima designed super-eco lakers represent Fednav's most efficient vessels to date, the company said. Their carbon emissions will be 33% less than the vessels they will replace, including a Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) footprint at least 87% smaller.

Fednav Combines Its Shipping Business Units

Canadian bulk shipping company Fednav said Monday it will reorganizing its commercial and technical shipping businesses under one management entity.The Marine Department, led by Executive Vice-President Tina Revsbech, will unite the traditional Chartering and Operations teams with their counterparts in the Shipowning, Technical, and Arctic units.In addition, Fednav announced the appointment of Isabelle Brassard as Senior Vice-President, Logistics and Sustainable Development, effective September 2020.Reporting to Paul Pathy…

Fednav Welcomes New Handy Bulker

Canadian bulk shipping company Fednav Limited has taken delivery of Federal Montreal, its newest Great Lakes-suitable Handysize vessel. The ceremony was attended by senior management from both Fednav and the shipyard.The Federal Montreal is a 34,500 DWT international ice-class bulk carrier, flagged in the Marshall Islands. Built to trade in the St. Lawrence River and the Great Lakes, the vessel is certified by DNV GL and is equipped with the latest environmental protection technology.Named in honour of the city Fednav calls home, the Federal Montreal is the company's first ship ever to bear the name of a city."Montreal is Canada's transportation capital.

Fednav Welcomes Innovative Ballast System at Indiana Port

Fednav Limited, the largest international bulk shipowner in Canada, welcomed to the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor, the Federal Caribou, one of seven new oceangoing lakers equipped with a ballast water treatment system-a first for the Great Lakes. This vessel protects the Lakes by treating its ballast water two times: by conducting an exchange in the North Atlantic, and through filtration and a chlorine disinfection treatment on the ship. The Federal Caribou is part of a series of 16 Handysize vessels, representing an investment by Fednav of more than $400 million and designed specifically for the Great Lakes. The company is the leading international operator in the Great Lakes, has one of the most modern fleets of bulk carriers in the world, the average age being under 10 years.

Fednav Orders 12 Ballast Water Treatment Systems

Fednav Limited, a Canadian operator of international ships in the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway system, announced an order for 12 ballast water treatment systems to equip its ships currently under construction. According to the shipper, this makes Fednav the first shipping company in Canada and the Great Lakes to announce the installation of ballast water treatment systems, well before the regulatory requirement. First Arctic Cargo Shipped through the Northwest Passage

Fednav, a Canadian-owned company and world leader in Arctic navigation, today announced that its vessel, the MV Nunavik sailed from Deception Bay en route to China via Canada's Northwest Passage, with a full cargo of nickel concentrate. The Nunavik will be one of the first commercial vessels to transit the Northwest Passage completely, and the first to do so unescorted with an Arctic cargo, and with Canadian expertise. The Nunavik is the most powerful conventional (non-nuclear) icebreaking bulk carrier in the world, and sails from Deception Bay, Northern Quebec year round, transporting product from the Canadian Royalties mine. The Nunavik will deliver 23,000 tons of nickel concentrate to Bayuquan in China.

Fednav Adds Six Ocean-going Lakers to Great Lakes Fleet

Fednav Limited, the largest international maritime bulk carrier in Canada, announced the addition of six new vessels to its fleet. Ordered with Sumitomo Corporation and Oshima Shipyard, the environmentally advanced vessels will be built in Japan and will add substantial capacity to its Great Lakes-capable fleet of ships. As highly flexible vessels well suited to international trade, the 34,000-ton bulk carriers are adapted to the dimensions of the St. Lawrence Seaway and are specially equipped for navigating in ice.

Fednav Group Brings New Green Ship to the US Great Lakes

Montreal-based Fednav Group, owner of Federal Marine Terminals, Inc. (FMT), the leading terminal operator at the Port of Cleveland, has delivered three new state-of-the-art vessels to trade on the Great Lakes-Seaway System. The MV Federal Satsuki, arrived at Federal Marine Terminals, Cleveland, this week from Europe, carrying steel for the coal mining, automotive, and cosmetic industries and machinery for the food industry. After unloading its cargo in Cleveland, the vessel will load grain in Toledo for export to Northern Europe. The new ship was welcomed today in a special gift-exchange ceremony between Port of Cleveland officials and Fednav executives, on the occasion of its maiden voyage to the United States.

Canada's Fednav Orders Six New Great Lakers

Fednav Limited announce contracts with Japanese shipbuilders Oshima Shipyard. The environmentally advanced vessels will be built in Japan and are destined to become the flagships of Fednav's fleet of over 80 ships. The six additional vessels will be delivered between 2015 and 2016, as part of a series of 21 new ships added to Fednav's fleet since January 1, 2012. Fednav has the largest fleet of ice-class vessels in the world—vessels capable of navigating demanding winter conditions along the St. Lawrence Seaway, in the Baltic Sea, and even in the Arctic. Located near Nagasaki, Japan, Oshima Shipyard will build the 35,000-ton bulk carriers, which are specially equipped for navigating in ice.

UK P&I Club Elects New Board

New Directors, UK P&I Board

Seven directors were elected to the Board of the UK P&I Club at its AGM in Athens on the 27th October. After obtaining a postgraduate degree in industrial engineering, Ibrahim Güngen founded Güngen Foreign Trade Co Ltd with his brother Mehmet in 1976 and the business quickly became the biggest importer of molasses in Turkey. Mr Güngen has been chief executive officer of Güngen Maritime and Trading since 1990. Dr Grahaeme Henderson, aged 56, joined Shell following a PhD in Engineering from Southampton University in 1980.
