Van Oord Strengthens Position in Caspian Sea
Van Oord executes several contracts in the Caspian Sea region with a total value of more than 500 million US $. During the visit of the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte to Kazakhstan on Wednesday 2 December 2015 Van Oord announced the award of several contracts in the Caspian Sea. The first project comprises the dredging of a 68-kilometre-long access channel to a new cargo offloading facility to be operated by TenizService. Four cutter suction dredgers are removing a total of some 17 million cubic metres of soil in shallow water. enable the expansion of the Prorva port to help facilitate the growth of Kazakhstan’s oil and gas industry. In the second project Van Oord is performing the preparatory work for the installation of two pipelines in the same region.
Van Oord Orders 2 Dredgers to Be Built in Spain
Van Oord has ordered two trailing suction hopper dredgers to be built by Spanish Construcciones Navales del Norte S.L., LaNaval at its yard in Bilbao. Both vessels are scheduled to be delivered in 2017. According to Van Oord, the order is in line with its innovative investment program and is part of the replacement program of older trailing suction hopper dredgers. The new vessels are a contribution to the further modernization of Van Oord’s fleet and mark the start of a new generation of trailing suction hopper dredgers.
Strengthening Of Van Oord's Position In The UK
Van Oord has reached an agreement in principle on the acquisition of UK specialist marine civil contractor J.T. Mackley & Co Ltd. This acquisition will strengthen Van Oord's leading position on the UK flood defence and coastal construction market. J.T. Mackley & Co. Ltd will continue its business under its own name and will continue to be run by the existing management and staff. The company provides all round engineering, construction, maintenance and project delivery services in the United Kingdom and serves clients such as water, coastal, marine, commercial and industrial companies. Van Oord and J.T. Mackley & Co. Ltd have been working together for more than a decade.
