Schottel Building New Logistics Center in Dörth, Germany

Maritime propulsion specialist Schottel said Tuesday it is expanding its thruster factory in Dörth, Germany, to include a logistics center with a capacity of around 4,000 square meters.A contract for the expansion has now been signed with general contractor Goldbeck from Koblenz.The new building will be annexed to the existing facility and will provide 2,634 square meters of industrial floor space and 1,326 square meters of offices. TDI-Brooks Adds 75m DP2 Ship to its Fleet

TDI-Brooks increases its vessel capacity by adding a 75-meter DP2 vessel,  R/V NAUTILUS to its fleet, a ship that can offer a variety of offshore assistance with subsea services, construction aid, exploration, production, ROV and diving support, and scientific marine research and survey mapping, along with military support.This vessel is currently about 60% through its retrofit period in Las Palmas, scheduled to complete its shipyard period in late September 2023 and then transit to Trinidad for several geotechnical coring projects.

Keel Laid for Future USS Pierre (LCS 38)

Austal USA hosted a keel laying ceremony for the future USS Pierre (LCS 38) Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship at the company’s Gulf Coast shipyard. Ship sponsor Larissa Thune Hargens, with the assistance of Hon Tran – a 13-year Austal USA veteran A-class welder, authenticated the keel by welding her initials into a keel plate that will be welded to the hull of the ship.The future USS Pierre is the final Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship being built by Austal USA in Mobile, Ala. LCS 38 is the second U.S. Navy ship named for the South Dakota capital city.

Techcross Retrofits BWMS in Tanker's Engine Room

Ballast water management system company Techcross said it has installed a BWMS in the engine room of an existing tanker. This installation method, called the “Engine Room Solution”, was patented under the name of Techcross in Korea in 2016 and has been applied only to new ships so far. However, this is the first time it has been applied to an existing ship.One set of ECS 1000B model was installed on the 50,400 PC tanker owned by Horizon Tankers Limited S.A. (under Target Marine Group), based in Greece, using Techcross’ Engine Room Solution.

US Transfers Three Patrol Ships to the Egyptian Navy

Iran Caught Trying to Capture US Navy Sea Drone

The U.S. Navy said it thwarted an Iranian attempt to capture one if its unmanned surface vessels (USV) in the Arabian Gulf.While transiting international waters around 11 p.m. (local time), Aug. 29, U.S. 5th Fleet observed Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGCN) support ship Shahid Baziar towing a Saildrone Explorer USV in an attempt to detain it. DNV Recognizes First Verified SEEMP III Vessel

Classification society DNV presented Arcadia Shipmanagement Co Ltd. with a certificate recognizing their vessel Aegean Myth as the first vessel globally to have a SEEMP III manual. The Ship Operational Carbon Intensity Plan or SEEMP Part III, is part of IMO’s strategy to reduce shipping’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and a verified SEEMP Part III must be kept on board from 1 January 2023.The SEEMP Part III, or Ship Operational Carbon Intensity Plan, was finalized with the latest amendments to MARPOL Annex VI and the associated Guidelines at MEPC 78 last month.

ClassNK Launches App for Ship Management and PSC Performance

Japan-based classification society ClassNK announced the release of its PrimeShip-PSC Intelligence mobile app designed to assist the improvement of ship management system and port state control (PSC) performance. The application is the mobile version of PSC Intelligence PC version for ship management companies released in 2018.The free application, which has been developed for seafarers, enables them not only to manually input the reports by PSC into data on their smartphones, but also to convert the PSC reports shot with a camera into data using AI-OCR.
