Italian Sea Group Buys Bankrupt Yacht Builder for $91 Million

The Italian Sea Group said on Wednesday it had bought bankrupt luxury yacht maker Perini Navi for 80 million euros ($91 million) in an auction held by a court in Lucca, Tuscany.Italian yacht makers Ferretti Group and SanLorenzo had also offered to buy the luxury sailing brand Perini Navi, which was declared bankrupt in January.The Italian Sea Group said in a statement that the deal, funded with most of the proceeds of its IPO and through bank financing, will double its order intake for refits and lead to new contracts for the construction of 90-130 metre motor yachts.($1 = 0.8835 euros)(Report

Perini Navi Launches New 25m Eco Tender

Italian shipyard Perini Navi said its first motor yacht launch since the company’s rebranding, and its first ever planing motoryacht, the Eco-tender is effectively a mini superyacht tailored to the requests of her experienced Perini Navi owners.The project grew out of initial discussions with the owners for a bigger sailing boat. It emerged that the owners were very happy with their existing 52m Perini Navi sailing yacht, but their needs had evolved over the years and what they really wanted was not a bigger boat, but more flexible cabin space to accommodate single guests or children.As they prefer to anchor offshore, they also wanted to explore closer inshore in something more substantial than a conventional RIB.The answer was a vessel with the same graceful looks…

Carbon Fibre Megayacht Launched from Picchiotti Shipyard

The Perini Navi Group,  designers and constructors of large sailing and motor yachts, announce that the 31,65m sloop Xnoi (pronounced per noi - “for us”) has been launched. This sailing yacht has a hull, superstructure, mast and boom and all are in carbon fibre. The launching ceremony was held recently at the Picchiotti shipyard in La Spezia. The construction of this new yacht – designed by Nauta Yacht Design’s Mario Pedol and Massimo Gino – meets the changing needs of today’s yachting market and expands the range of Perini Navi Group products.

Superyacht industry people gathered at the ÇıraÄźan Palace Kempinski, Istanbul, Turkey recently for the seventh annual World Superyacht Awards, which honour the finest new superyacht builds delivered to their owners in the past 12 months. Tango: Motor Yacht of the Year, sponsored by Camper & Nicholsons International. The 77.7m yacht was built by Feadship and styled by Eidsgaard Design. Vertigo: Sailing Yacht of the Year, sponsored by Proteksan Turquoise. The 67.2m yacht was built by Alloy Yachts and styled by Philippe Briand, with an interior by Christian Liaigre Yacht Design.

Sperry Marine Nav Systems for Italian Superyachts

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has been selected to supply the bridge navigation systems for two new superyachts under construction by Italian yachtbuilder Perini Navi at its shipyards in Viareggio and La Spezia. The orders for the integrated bridge systems were awarded to Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine business unit through Telemar Yachting, Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine’s authorized sales and service representative for the yacht market in Italy. SpecTec New Yacht Projects

AMELS’ 171 semi-custom mega yacht series.

SpecTec has been contracted for the delivery of a comprehensive IDEA management software system to M/Y Slipstream and sister vessel M/Y Cloud Nine. Both vessels are currently under construction at CMN shipyard in Cherbourg, France and are due for delivery in February and June 2009 respectively. SpecTec has been contracted for the delivery of a comprehensive IDEA management and documentation system to the next two vessels of AMELS’ 171 semi-custom mega yacht series. Both vessels are currently under construction at the yard’s Vlissingen facility and will be delivered mid 2009.

Intermarine Reports Increasing Numbers

Increasing numbers of motor and sailing yachts from around the world arrived this past year at Intermarine Savannah to take advantage of the shipyard's repair and refit facilities. Among the procession of vessels brought to Intermarine for refit and repairs was the 315-ft. M/V Limitless, one of the largest yachts in the world, which was dry docked at the shipyard for three months last year. Costa Crociere Receives Yacht Design Award

Pier Luigi Foschi, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Costa Crociere Spa, was on hand at the Yacht Club Italiano in Genoa to collect the prize awarded to the Genoese company for the construction of the Costa Fortuna, the new 105,000 gross tonnage vessel due to enter into service at the end of 2003, which will be the largest cruise ship ever to fly the Italian flag. On October 11, the Yacht Club Italiano in Genoa was the venue for the “Yacht Design Award 2002”, presented to leading figures, shipyards and shipping companies that have made outstanding contributions to seafaring through pleasure vessels and cruise ships based on cutting-edge technology and design.
