Damen Shipyards Group has officially launched a fully electric service operations vessel (SOV), 70 meters x 17 meters, with its offshore charging capabilities.To achieve offshore charging, Damen has partnered with UK-based MJR Power & Automation – a company that has previously developed an offshore charging system for a crew transfer vessel.The charging system uses the motion-compensated gangway to create a connection between the vessel and a turbine or substation offshore, in much the same way a personnel transfer is undertaken.

Ulstein Design & Solutions has signed a contract with Turkey's Tersan Shipyard for two methanol-fuelled ULSTEIN SX216 Construction Service Operating Vessel (CSOV) designs. Nineteen personnel fell overboard, and two of them were hurt, during a transfer from a small boat to the U.S. Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) off the coast of Haiti on Monday, the Navy said.All were safely recovered and returned to Comfort with assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Harold Miller (WPC 1138). The two injured sailors were treated aboard Comfort and are expected to make a full recovery, the Navy said.The hospital ship arrived off the coast of Jeremie, Haiti, in support of U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S.

Singapore-listed firm Marco Polo Marine said Tuesday it planned to build, own and operate a new Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) to meet the rising demand for support vessels required to service the booming offshore wind farm industry in Asia. When completed in the first quarter of 2024, the vessel will also be the first CSOV to be designed in Asia."The group will be funding the construction of the vessel with its existing resources and borrowings from financial institutions.

Singapore-based shipbuilding company Strategic Marine has delivered two crew transfer vessels (CTVs) to the UK-based offshore support vessel company WEM Marine Ltd. The new 27m vessels, built to the Stratcat 26 design, are the very first CTVs to be launched from Strategic Marine’s new shipyard on Benoi Road in Singapore. The WEM 5 and WEM 6 crew transfer vessels have been designed to meet the operational requirements of UK and European waters where they will be deployed.The vessels are powered by two Caterpillar C32 engines driving fixed pitch propellers.

Singapore-based Strategic Marine delivered a pair of 27m CTVs to WEM Marine Ltd, a UK-based offshore support vessel provider with a growing fleet servicing the renewable offshore wind energy sector. This is WEM’s first order with the Strategic Marine Group.To date Strategic Marine has delivered 23 CTV’s to offshore wind vessel operators, according to Chan Eng Yew, CEO of Strategic Marine.The CTVs were both built in Singapore, designed to meet the specific requirements of WEM who intends to deploy the vessels in UK and European waters.

Spanish shipbuilder GONDAN said Wednesday that its yard in Figueras launched a new commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) for Norwegian shipowner Edda Wind AS. The newbuild is the first in a series of four CSOVs scheduled for delivery from 2022. The partnership between Damen Shipyards Group and Ampelmann to extend the benefits of motion-compensated gangway systems to fast crew supply vessels has reached a major landmark. At the end of March, the first Damen fast crew supply (FCS) vessel to be fitted with an Ampelmann L-type system began operations in the Gulf of Guinea. This marks a significant step forward in the move towards bringing the latest advances in safe and flexible marine access to a wider array of oil and gas operations. Damen and Ampelmann have together been promoting their integrated solutions combining Damen’s FCS range and Ampelmann’s systems and now, thanks to the vision of Nigerian offshore services company LATC Marine and its client ExxonMobil Nigeria, the first has entered service.

Ampelmann has secured two contracts with vessel owner L.A.T.C Marine Limited, on behalf of ExxonMobil, for the supply of two L-type gangway systems, offshore Nigeria. Following successful sea trials of the L-type gangway system, the integrated solution was approved for operations. Vessel owner L.A.T.C Marine has installed the personnel transfer system on its Damen FCS-5009 Fast Crew Supplier vessel Dijama for in field operations with ExxonMobil. The L-type is particularly suited to small, crew change vessels and allows a continuous flow of up to 50 personnel every five minutes. Gbolahan Shaba, CEO, L.A.T.C. The new WAVECRAFT Voyager 38 X is designed to reduce transit time, improve crew and passenger comfort, safety and efficiency, expand operational envelop and reduce logistical cost, Umoe Mandal said.
