Kvaerner Taking Advice on Strategic Growth Alternatives

Kvaerner says it is exploring new strategic opportunities to further strengthen its business and has retained Greenhill & Co. International LLP to advise on evaluating all strategic alternatives. Kvaerner has during the first half of 2014 delivered several key oil and gas projects on schedule, won new key contracts and continued to implement cost reduction measures. The company's Board of Directors says it is pleased with how Kvaerner has built a strong position as a competitive contractor recognized for its high quality delivery of demanding oil and gas projects. The Board concludes that the time now is right to explore opportunities  to accelerate the  development of Kvaerner.

Kvaerner Wins EPC Contract for Hebron GBS Project

ExxonMobil Canada Properties has released the option for Kvaerner's joint venture company Kiewit-Kvaerner Contractors to provide the full scope of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for the Hebron Project gravity based structure (GBS). The contract value for Kvaerner's share of the full EPC contract is approximately $1.5 billion and includes work conducted to date on the Hebron project. Kvaerner Authorized for Next Stage Work on Canadian Drilling Project

Kværner ASA authorised for further work on Hebron Project in Newfoundland & Labrador Kiewit-Kvaerner Contractors, the 50/50 joint venture between Peter Kiewit Infrastructure and Kvaerner, has been authorised by ExxonMobil Canada Properties (EMCP) to proceed with work on the Hebron Project gravity based structure (GBS) project in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.   The authorisation follows substantial completion of front end engineering and design services and awards the next phase, which includes detailed engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) related services. Kvaerner estimates its share of this work to be approximately USD 125-150 million.

$70M Canadian Offshore Oil Contract Awarded

According to a Nov. 10 report from CBC News, A major contract has been awarded to start work on Newfoundland and Labrador's Hebron offshore oil project. U.S. construction company Peter Kiewit has won a $70m contract for engineering and site preparation. The work will be done at Bull Arm fabrication site in eastern Newfoundland. Kiewit is sharing the work with Aker Solutions, and Exxon Mobil is leading the consortium to develop Hebron. (Source: CBC News)

Aker Solutions Wins Hebron GBS Project

Kiewit-Aker Contractors, a 50/50 joint venture between Peter Kiewit Infrastructure and Aker Solutions, has been awarded a contract by ExxonMobil Canada Properties (EMCP) for the Hebron Project gravity based structure (GBS). The contract is for Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) and site preparation, with the option at ExxonMobil's discretion to subsequently provide detailed engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services. The contract value for Aker Solutions' share of the FEED and site preparation is $70m. The Hebron Field is an oil and gas development in the Atlantic Ocean located 350 kilometres offshore from St. John's, in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

Wait for Work at Marystown Shipyard Could Soon Be Over

The industry and political leaders in the area will say the community’s shipbuilding future is built on more than just the federal government’s plan to construct new Joint Supply Ships (JSS) for the Canadian Navy, according to theWesternStar.com. In the meantime, a duo of companies are in the process of putting together plans to “develop project implementation and in-service support proposals” for the JSS project. ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems Canada Inc. and SNC-Lavalin ProFac Inc. won that contract following a bidding process. Peter Kiewit and Sons Ltd. in Marystown is part of a pre-qualified consortium for JSS. It is believed the worth of such a contract to the Marystown Shipyard would be in the neighborhood of $800 to $900 million.

Aker Kvaerner Awarded Contract for White Rose Platform

Aker Kvaerner, part of the international oil services, engineering and construction, and shipbuilding Group, Kvaerner, announced that Husky Energy has awarded the joint venture comprising Aker Kvaerner (49 per cent) and its partner Peter Kiewit & Sons Co. (51 per cent), an EPC contract for the complete topside facilities for the White Rose FPSO, offshore Newfoundland, Canada. The contract has a value of approximately $400 million. FGH’s Newfoundland Sector Under New Ownership

Friede Goldman Halter, Inc. (FGH) announced today it has sold the assets of Friede Goldman Newfoundland, the company’s Canadian subsidiary located in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada, to Peter Kiewit Sons Co. Ltd.The transaction is part of the continuing effort to restructure the company and facilitate its emergence from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Bob Shepherd, Executive vice president, administration of FGH, commented, “ The sale of the assets of FGN is in the best interests of the company as it emerges from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The transaction allows the company to reduce outstanding obligations.”

Local Yards Start to Feel the Impact

The U.S. Gulf of Mexico region is again poised to prosper, spurred by the buzz of activity surrounding the oil patch, and specifically the renewed vigor with which companies will explore and develop deepwater fields for the production of natural resources. Though the resumption of business at "full throttle" has taken perhaps a bit longer than many observers would have initially predicted, particularly given the continued high price of oil and gas and the "pro" oil industry political team occupying the White House, it is a safe bet that, at least for the next several years, the offshore oil business will ensure that the marine business in the GOM region is a prosperous one.
