Alfa Laval to Suppy Pumping Systems for China-built FPSO

Swedish company Alfa Laval  has won an order to supply Framo pumping systems to an FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading) vessel to be built in China.The provider of specialized products and engineering solutions based on its key technologies of heat transfer, separation and fluid handling said in a press release that the order has a value of approximately SEK 70 million ($7.72 mln).It was booked late September in the Pumping Systems unit of the Marine Division, with deliveries scheduled for 2019.The order comprises marine pumping systems for crude oil offloading, slop, produced water, off-spec oil and ballast pump duties."I am pleased to announce this order for our Framo pumping systems.

Alfa Laval to Expand Test & Training Center

The Alfa Laval Test & Training Center in Aalborg, Denmark will soon be expanded to five times its current size. This development, focused on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and other alternative fuels, aims to address new challenges and possibilities for marine customers as they strive to meet environmental and energy targets. Alfa Laval  said the expansion will create the world’s most advanced test center for environmental and combustion technology – regardless of fuel type. Alfa Laval describes its Test & Training Center as a cornerstone of customer-focused technology development.

When Gustaf de Laval read in 1877 an article in the German periodical ”Milchzeitung” (Milk News Paper) about centrifugal separators, he certainly did not expect that it would lead to his founding of a global acting company with around 16,400 employees nearly 140 years later. His first continuous separator, with a capacity of 130 liters per hour, was demonstrated 1879 in Stockholm; and four years later, in 1883, he and his partner, Oscar Lamm, established the company AB Separator.

After months of preparation, the doors of the Alfa Laval Test & Training Center in Aalborg, Denmark are open. Located on the site of the former Aalborg shipyard, this massive ship simulation facility – the largest and most advanced in the marine industry – now adds considerable muscle to Alfa Laval’s research and development efforts. The Alfa Laval Test & Training Center comprises a 250 m2 testing area, built around a 2 MW marine engine and comprising commercial and prototype equipment from all of Alfa Laval’s marine product groups.

New Alfa Laval Test & Training Center

Work continues on the Alfa Laval Test & Training Center in Aalborg, Denmark, a facility that will greatly expand Alfa Laval’s marine testing capabilities. The center, which will serve as a springboard for faster and more effective R&D, will further strengthen Alfa Laval’s capacity for innovative marine solutions that optimize the performance of onboard equipment, save energy and help ship owners comply with environmental legislation. While the center’s official inauguration is not scheduled until 15 January 2014, some full-scale prototype testing will be initiated during the month of October.

Alfa Laval Wins Repeat PureSOx Order from Danish Ferry Operator

Alfa Laval won a repeat order for its PureSOx exhaust gas cleaning systems valued at approximately €19.5 million from Danish ferry operator DFDS. The contract was signed in June, and the order was booked and communicated to stakeholders in the second quarter of 2013. Delivery is scheduled from January to July 2014 with retrofit installation and commissioning of eight DFDS vessels – five roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessels and three roll-on/roll-off passenger (Ro-Pax) vessels – to follow immediately thereafter.
