CMA CGM Launches Rhine Valley Rail

The CMA CGM Group has introduced Rhine Valley Rail, a new rail service connecting the Port of Rotterdam with the German hinterland. The train connections are aligned with CMA CGM’s deep-sea services.Operated in cooperation with TFG, the Rhine Valley Rail service will officially start with its first train departure in Dortmund on 18 October. Hamburg Welcomes Its Largest Ever Box Ship

The largest ever containership to call at the port on the Elbe berthed in Hamburg early on Thursday morning, March 15. The oceangoing giant CMA CGM Antoine de Saint Exupery made its maiden call at the Port of Hamburg's HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB) where it will discharge approximately 7,000 TEU and load 4,000. The 400-meter-long CMA CGM Antoine de Saint Exupery, delivered to French owner CMA CGM earlier this year, has a capacity of 20,776 TEU. End-to-end, those containers would cover a distance of over 125 kilometers. The mega ship sails on the FAL 1 service (French Asia Line 1), which connects Asia to Northern Europe. With one heave, gantry cranes at Burchardkai can lift two 40-foot or four 20-foot containers, with a total weight of 110 tons.

RWO Reports a Healthy Interest in CleanBallast System

After RWO’s CleanBallast system was considered as the first choice by Canadian shipowner Seaspan, the Bremen-based marine water treatment expert is proud to announce further contracts for its ballast water treatment system for Belgian and Canadian shipowners. Canada’s Canfornav will install the RWO system on four 36,000dwt bulk carriers at Yangfan shipyard, and another four CleanBallast units are destined for 38,000t LPG carriers built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyards for Belgium’s Exmar. “The IMO Convention for ballast water treatment will be an important issue on every shipowner’s desk this year.

The broad portfolio of marine water technologies has secured another contract for RWO GmbH in its expanding field of ballast water treatment units. The Bremen-based company, a subsidiary of VeoliaWater Solutions & Technologies, has announced that German shipyard Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft mbH & Co KG (FSG) has ordered RWO’s ballast water as well as sewage treatment systems for two newbuilds. “RWO’s long term operational experience in ballast water treatment is something that makes the company outstanding in the meanwhile longer row of BWTS manufacturers.
