Tanker Crewmember Medevaced Off Texas

An ailing crewmember was medevaced from a tanker offshore Port Aransas, Texas, Tuesday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi command center received a medevac request at 9:40 a.m. via cell phone from the crew of the Fortunato, a 375-foot liquefied petroleum gas carrier, stating a 41-year-old crewmember was suffering from facial swelling.A Station Port Aransas 45-foot Response Boat – Medium boat crew launched to conduct the medevac.The RB–M boat crew arrived on scene with the Panama-flagged tanker vessel…

Poor Bridge Resource Management Led to Gas Carrier Allision -NTSB

A liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier struck a Washington State wharf in 2019 because the pilot approached with excessive speed and at too steep an angle, resulting from poor bridge resource management by the Puget Sound pilot and the ship’s bridge team, the National Transportation Safety Board said Thursday.The 741.5-foot partially loaded tanker Levant struck the Petrogas Ferndale Wharf in Puget Sound, near Ferndale, Wash., on December 15, 2019, causing more than $6.75 million in damage to the wharf and $1.5 million in damage to the vessel. The wharf’s south mooring dolphin, and the catwalk connecting it to the wharf, were destroyed and the Levant’s forward ballast tank was penetrated and flooded.

Brazil Criticized for Dumping Toxic Ships in South Asia

NGOs and trade unions in Brazil have criticized the state-run Petrobras’ end-of-life fleet management by dumping toxic ships on South Asian beaches. The Brazilian Confederação Nacional dos Trabalhadores em Transportes Aquaviários e Aéreos, na Pesca e nos Portos (CONTTMAF) trade union federation and its member SINDMAR (Sindicato Nacional dos Oficiais da Marinha Mercante) have recently criticized the shipbreaking practices of Transpetro, the oil and gas transportation subsidiary of the Brazilian petroleum corporation Petrobras, majority-owned by the State. In the last five years, more than twenty vessels owned by the oil and gas giant have been dismantled on the beaches of India and Pakistan, where shipbreaking activities endanger both workers and the environment.

Laugfs Buys Third LPG Carrier Vessel

Laugfs Maritime Services, the shipping division of Sri Lanka’s Laugfs Gas,  has purchased its third Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) carrier vessel for USD 2.875 million, reports  Lanka Business Online quoting company sources. The 1998-built 3,500-cbm Lady Martine was bought from Ultragas at a price of $2.875m and will be renamed Gas Courage. It will be reflagged to Sri Lanka. Laugfs Maritime Services private limited operates with Board of Investments of Sri Lanka approval to carry out a business of sea cargo operation services. The new vessel will join the company’s two other LPG carriers, Gas Challenger and Gas Success. Laugfs Maritime Services purchased its second Liquid Petroleum gas carrier vessel "Gas Dorado" with a total investment of US$ 6.0 million in October 2015.

Five Killed Aboard Dubai-bound Tankship

A leaking pipe in the compressor room of the tankship 'MV Maharshi Krishnatreya' on passage from Mangalore caused the accident. Five sailors were killed and another injured after a gas leak on the tanker, reports The National. The vessel's chief officer, gas engineer, a bosun and three seamen were repairing a damaged pipe on the liquified petroleum gas carrier when they inhaled the poisonous gas. The injured sailor was in a critical condition at a hospital in Gujarat. An investigation is underway. Source: The National

Pirate Attack Fails Against LPGC Maido, Somali Basin

On 26 October 2010, late afternoon, the French-flagged Liquefied Petroleum Gas Carrier (LPGC) MAIDO was reported under attack from one skiff approximately 100 nautical miles south east from Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. Pirates had managed to board the vessel; however, later in the evening they eventually abandoned it, after having been unable to get control over the crew who had locked themselves in the ship’s “citadel.” The 14 crewmembers are reported safe.

Maersk Vessel Involved in Collision

Maersk Holyhead, a 20,900 cbm semi-ref liquefied petroleum gas carrier (lpg-carrier), on November 6 collided with the Liberian panamax bulk carrier PEQUHT 53-55 miles off the Maracaibo Lake channel.

Transas Offers New LNG Tanker Simulator

Transas expanded its range of Liquid Cargo Handling simulators with the LNG tanker simulator. The LCHS/LNG system realistically imitates the fourth tanker type in the Transas simulator range, which also includes Chemical Tanker, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Carrier and Large Crude Oil Carrier models. Main components of the Transas PC-based LNG simulator include Ship's Hull, Ballast System, Cargo System, Terminal Operations, Machinery Room and Inert Gas Plant. All the processes in tanker systems are displayed on the simulator screen using 2D animation. The simulator also incorporates a comprehensive Load Calculator system for cargo calculations, such as draft, trim, heel, stability, shearing forces and bending moments.
