Ghana, Equatorial Guinea to Sign LNG Deal

Ghana's President Nana Akufo-Addo plans to sign an agreement to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Equatorial Guinea during his three-day visit to the Gulf of Guinea petroleum producer due to begin on Monday, his office said. Though an oil and gas producer in its own right since its flagship Jubilee field came on stream in 2010, Ghana has in the past struggled to ensure reliable power production for a growing domestic market. Equatorial Guinea, meanwhile, is exploring the possibility of selling a portion of its LNG cargos to its African neighbours. The statement from Akufo-Addo's communications director said the president was expected to sign a framework document with his counterpart President Teodoro Obiang Nguema to import LNG from Equatorial Guinea for five years.

Tognum & Rolls Royce Cooperate on Two Power, Propulsion, Contracts

The first delivery comprises twelve MTU 16V 4000 M63 engines destined for Camorim, the Brazilian shipping company. Twin MTU engines will be used to power Rolls-Royce propeller-rudder systems on a total of six tug boats. Each engine in this order delivers power of 2,000kW, and its value lies at some three million euros to Tognum. The tug vessels will mainly be used in offshore oil production operations carried out by Petrobas, the petroleum producer in Rio de Janeiro/Macae. The second order is from Fjellstrand, the Norwegian shipyard. Four marine gensets based on MTU 16V 4000 M23S engines, each with a power output of 1,840kW, will be used to propel a multi-purpose offshore vessel operated by Norside Supporter AS. The engines back up the Rolls-Royce propellers and automation system.

Feds OK LNG Terminal off La.

Petroleum producer McMoRan Exploration Co. has received final approval for a $1 b liquefied natural gas project off Louisiana's coast, including storage caverns in an offshore salt dome, the company announced Thursday. The go-ahead from MarAd was the last needed for the Main Pass Energy Hub, sources said. The record accompanying the decision was 46 pages long and outlines requirements that will be put into the license. The facility will handle imported natural gas that has been liquefied in order to take up less space and be more easily transported by tankers. In the LNG process, natural gas is chilled to -256 degrees Fahrenheit, turning it from a gas to a liquid, and moved into heavily insulated storage tanks.

Statoil to Increase Production

Accordint to AP Statoil ASA will increase efforts to produce more oil in Norway's home waters, even as it expands exploration. Statoil is the key petroleum producer on Norway's offshore oil fields, operating 24 fields that account for about 60 percent of the country's production. Norway is the world's third largest oil exporter, after Saudi Arabia and Russia, with production in April of 2.4 million barrels a day plus natural gas. About 1.4 million barrels a day are produced by Statoil. In areas that are already producing, Lund said the company will use new technology to increase the amount of oil recovered from mature fields. Statoil will also step up the search for new oil reservoirs that are close to existing platforms…
