Philly Shipyard Workers Ink Four-year Labor Deal

Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSI) announced that a new four-year collective bargaining agreement has been ratified by the Philadelphia Metal Trades Council (PMTC). Aker Philadelphia Shipyard's CBA Ratified

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, Inc. (APSI), the sole operating subsidiary of Aker Philadelphia Shipyard ASA, announced today that a new four year collective bargaining agreement has been ratified by the Philadelphia Metal Trades Council (PMTC). The PMTC is the exclusive bargaining representative for production and maintenance employees at APSI and consists of ten unions. Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, 10th Tanker

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard (Oslo:AKPS), a leading U.S. commercial shipyard, cut steel on Hull 014, the tenth product tanker in the series of twelve to be built for American Shipping Company (Oslo:AMSC). Production of this vessel begins a few days after the successful delivery of Hull 010, the Overseas Boston. A small ceremony was held this afternoon to commence production and was attended by representatives of Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, OSG, the Philadelphia Metal Trades Council and Philabundance. Last week, Aker Philadelphia Shipyard and the Philadelphia Metal Trades Council held a yard wide food drive to help support Philabundance in its mission to be the largest hunger relief organization in the region.

New Union Agreement for Aker Philadelphia Shipyard

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard and the Philadelphia Metal Trades Council aannounced that a new collective bargaining agreement between the union and the shipyard has been ratified by the Philadelphia Metal Trades membership. The new agreement comes after months of determined negotiations between the yard and union leadership and will be effective through January 31, 2011. On the new agreement Dave Meehan, Aker Philadelphia Shipyard President and CEO, remarked, "Our union employees are the backbone of our shipyard, and their hard work and dedication to their crafts are evidenced in the ships we build. This agreement speaks to the commitment of both parties to work together building on our accomplishments to date and looking to the future.
