U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Graduates 229

The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) at Kings Point graduated 229 new Merchant Marine and Military Officers as part of its Class of 2016 commencement ceremony today. The keynote speaker, Gen. Darren W. McDew, Commander, U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), gave the commencement address before a crowd of more than 2,200, including graduates, family members and representatives from the federal government, U.S. military and maritime industry. “Your craft now is leadership,” said McDew. TOTE Services Announces New Business

TOTE Services, Inc. won a five-year ship management contract by American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier (ARC).  The seven-ship ARC fleet consists of Pure Car Truck Carriers that carry cargo in U.S. – International trades for the U.S. Government and its various agencies.  TOTE Services will provide crewing, purchasing and other back office support functions for ARC from its headquarters in Jacksonville, FL.  Work will begin on January 1, 2015. Philip H. Greene, Jr., TOTE Services’ president, commented that this addition to the company portfolio will be a close partnership between ARC and TOTE Services and added, “we are excited to be working with ARC again and are pleased to be a partner in supporting their commercial success.”

President of TOTE Services, Captain Jorge Aguirre, retires after 33 years with the company, to be replaced by Retired Rear Admiral, U.S. Navy, Philip H. Greene, Jr. Captain Aguirre spent 16 years at sea, coming ashore with TOTE Services in June of 1980 as a Port Captain at the Philadelphia headquarters of the company, then known as Interocean Management Corporation or IOM. He served as Manager of Operations, then Senior Vice President and in 2001 was made President. He has made significant contributions to the industry by lending his experience and interest in vessel safety…

Greene Named VP at TOTE, Inc.

Retired Rear Admiral, U.S. Navy, Philip H. Greene, Jr., has been named vice president of TOTE, Inc. Greene will join TOTE, Inc. in early September 2012, leading efforts to further serve government and military accounts in the organization’s maritime, logistics and services companies. After a distinguished 32-year career in the U.S. Navy, Greene served as the eleventh superintendent of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY. Most recently Greene held the U.S. Department of Transportation Chair at the National Defense University, Washington, D.C. “The addition of Admiral Greene to the TOTE, Inc. leadership team is an important step in creating a cohesive and concentrated effort in serving the government and military sector of our business.

USMMA Superintendent Departing Kings Point

RADM Greene to assume post at National Defense University. In a move that has yet to be officially posted, Department Of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has reassigned Rear Admiral Philip H. Greene to a position at the National Defense University. Yesterday, Greene resigned at about 1000 hours in a staff meeting at Kings Point. He had been Superintendent at the nation's only federal maritime academy for about a year. MarineLink inquiries to Marad Public Affairs Officers for clarification have so far gone unanswered.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced that Rear Admiral Philip H. Greene, Jr. will become the new Superintendent of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. Admiral Greene holds a Merchant Marine Master’s license and is a 1978 Academy graduate. “Rear Admiral Greene will bring strong leadership to the Academy,” said Secretary LaHood. “His commitment to the midshipmen, his experience as an Academy graduate, and his distinguished naval career have given him the perspective and organizational strengths needed to move the U.S. Rear Admiral Greene came to the U.S.
