LNG to Benefit Philippines, Says ADB Energy Expert

The Philippines stands to benefit from introducing liquefied natural gas (LNG) to support power generation and making it part of its energy mix, the government's Philippine News Agency reported quoting  an energy sector expert for the Asian Development Bank (ADB). “Right now and the foreseeable future, natural gas and LNG is much cheaper today compared to two to three years ago, so there is a chance for the Philippines and for the countries in Asia to benefit from LNG and this is window of opportunity I think,” ADB chief of energy sector group Dr. Yongping Zhai said in an interview on Thursday. Zhai believes that LNG, a cleaner gas compared to coal, could be “very much part” of the Philippines' energy mix depending on its viability.

Six Countries Vie for US$2 Bln Philippines LNG Hub

State-run Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) has shortlisted six countries and will choose one from them as a partner for its planned US$2 billion receiving and distribution facility for imported LNG, Reuters reported. The company has received six proposals from China, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to co-build the LNG hub, PNOC’s head of LNG team and technical adviser Arwin Ardon quoted as saying. He said all proposals include storage, liquefaction, regassification, a power plant, and distribution facility as part of the LNG terminal. Boskalis Wins Huge Offshore Philippines Contract

Royal Boskalis Westminster wins a Shell Philippines Exploration contract to install an offshore Depletion Compression Platform. The contract to be executed for the Malampaya Project off the coast of Palawan Island, in the Republic of the Philippines, includes seabed preparation, rock installation, platform transportation and installation work and has a contract value of approximately US$ 60-million. The project relates to the expansion of the Malampaya Gas Field by means of an additional compressor platform next to the existing gas production platform.

Keppel’s Secure Contracts Worth S$160 Million

Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd's (Keppel O&M) subsidiaries, Keppel Subic Shipyard, Inc. (Keppel Subic Shipyard) in the Philippines and Keppel Verolme BV (Keppel Verolme) in the Netherlands, have secured contracts totalling S$160 million. Keppel Subic Shipyard has been awarded a contract from Shell Philippines Exploration BV (SPEX) to build a Depletion Compression Platform (DCP) to support the recovery of natural gas from the Malampaya gas field near Palawan Island, in the Philippines. When completed, the DCP will be deployed next to an existing shallow water production platform. The DCP is designed to maintain the current availability and deliverability of natural gas from the Malampaya field through regulating the gas export pressure and flow rates.

Fluor Wins Offshore Philippines EPC Contract

Fluor Offshore Solutions gains engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) support contract for Malampaya deep-water gas-to-power project. The project is being undertaken on behalf of the Philippine Government by the Service Contract 38 consortium composed of Shell Philippines Exploration B.V. (Operator), Chevron Malampaya LLC and Philippine National Oil Company—Exploration Corporation. This landmark project is among the most significant in the Philippines. Approximately 40 percent of the power for the main island of Luzon is generated by power plants using Malampaya gas. Malampaya Phase 3 involves the design, fabrication and installation of a new depletion compression platform that is linked by a bridge to the existing shallow water platform.
