ACP Signs MOU with Port Everglades
The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) and Port Everglades renewed their strategic alliance with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). First signed in August 2009, the MOU, which is renewable for five years, solidifies both entities’ dedication to growth and best customer practices. “Our partnership furthers our shared goal of promoting trade growth in Panama and Florida,” said ACP Administrator/CEO Alberto Alemán Zubieta. Areas of cooperation between the ACP and Port Everglades include joint advertising programs, data interchange and competitive market analyses of the shipping industry. This alliance will also continue to promote the “All-Water Route,” the route from Asia to the U.S. East Coast via the Panama Canal.

Panama Canal, Port Everglades Alliance
The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Port Everglades yesterday. ACP Administrator/CEO Alberto Alemán Zubieta and Port Everglades Director Phillip C. Allen signed the MOU during a ceremony held in Panama, agreeing to encourage new business and trade between both organizations. By signing the MOU, the ACP and Port Everglades agree to exchange information about their latest modernization efforts. The ACP and Port will also work together to promote maritime trade.
Cold Ironing Exploration Gets "Green Light" at Port Everglades
Port Everglades got the "green light" from the Broward County Commission to begin exploring the possibility of installing shore-side power, commonly called "cold ironing," at the new Cruise Terminal 18, which will be the year-round homeport terminal for Royal Caribbean International's Oasis-class ships. If deemed fiscally and operationally feasible, Port Everglades will become the first seaport on the East Coast of the to install cold ironing. Cold ironing allows a ship to shut off its engines and operate with shore-side electrical power from Florida Power & Light (FPL) as opposed to burning diesel fuel while the ship is docked in the port. Cruise ships need power even while docked to run all onboard systems such as air conditioning and lighting.
