Green Groups See Need To Nudge Obama's 'Opening Bid' On Carbon Cuts

In large part, the wide-ranging reaction to President Barack Obama's signature effort to cut power plant carbon emissions could have been written months in advance. Key Republicans and many industrial groups decried it as a job-killing war on coal that would drive up power prices; environmentalists and many Democrats hailed it as a landmark measure making good on Obama's pledge to tackle climate change. Behind the bombast, however, more measured voices found a proposal that was not as severe as critics had feared nor as ambitious as proponents had hoped for. Obituary: Arthur Everett Lyman, USMMA Alum

LEOMINSTER, MA -- Arthur Everett Lyman reportedly passed away on Sunday, Feb. 3rd, at Life Care Center in Leominster, MA. Arthur was born in Vulcan, Alberta on Feb. 27th, 1921. He is survived by, his sisters Mary E. Kent of Kent, WA and Laura M. Engbrecht of Seatac, WA, his sons Arthur E. Lyman, Jr. and Catherine Butera of Dobbs Ferry, NY, and Peter S. Lyman and Carole Carnovale of Mendon, MA, his grandson William Pica of Dobbs Ferry, NY, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lyman graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point) in 1943. During WWII he served as an engineer on numerous merchant ships that provided supplies to both the European and Pacific theatres.

UK P&I Club’s PEME Program Completes 250,000 Mariners

The UK P&I Club’s Pre-Employment Medical Examination (PEME) Programme is proving extremely successful with shipowners and managers and recently completed its 250,000th seafarer examination. Garry Jose G Ramos, who first went to sea in 1997, undertook the 250,000th examination at the scheme’s accredited Angelus Medical Clinic in Makati, the leading business centre in the Philippines. An oiler employed by Döhle-Philman Manning Agency, Mr Ramos passed the examination with flying colours, as he has done on nine other occasions over the past 14 years, and is now free to continue his seagoing career with Döhle-Philman. ”Ensuring that their crews are fit and healthy should be important to any owner or manager.
