Standardization for Cost Effective Pipeline Innovation - DNV GL

Growing global energy demand and requirements for additional pipeline capacity are driving the pipeline segment. However, pipeline related innovation is prioritized by only 4% of senior oil & gas professionals, according to research by DNV GL, the technical advisor to the oil & gas industry. Further, the research shows that nearly one in five oil & gas companies (18%) do not have a strategy in place to maintain innovation. Six in ten (61%) respondents agree that operators will increasingly push to standardize their delivery globally, up from 55% in 2015 and 52% in 2014. The most common strategy for maintaining innovation with lower budgets is to increase collaboration with other industry players (45%).

LNG Prices Firm on Pockets of Demand

Asian liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices edged up this week as the global market drew some support from demand in Mexico, after its state-run power company purchased six cargoes. The price of Asian spot cargoes for January delivery edged up to $7.30 per million British thermal units (mmBtu), from around $7.20/mmBtu last week. Cargoes for February delivery were lower at around $7.10/mmBtu, with supply from new projects in Australia and the United States expected to pick up in the new year. Mexico's CFE secured five LNG cargoes from Citi and one from Gazprom Marketing & Trading for delivery in the first half of 2016, traders said. Two sources said there had been some interest for cargoes into northwest Europe.

U.S. Ready to Help Hungary Build Energy Independence

The United States is willing to help Hungary and other European countries build energy infrastructure to reduce its dependence on Russian oil and gas, U.S. Chargé d'Affaires in Budapest André Goodfriend has told Nepszava newspaper. "Relying on Russian sources threatens energy independence," Goodfriend told Nepszava in an interview published on Saturday. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has drawn criticism from Western governments for trying to secure supplies of energy and trade for Hungary by doing deals with Moscow. Critics say he should not be cosying up to Russia when it has sent troops into Ukraine. On Friday, Orban accused the European Union of sabotaging the Russian-backed South Stream gas pipeline project…

The FLNG Market is Poised for Growth

Amanda Tay

There are many different views on the future of energy supplies, but strong agreement in two areas; over the next 25 years or so population growth and GDP growth in the developing economies, particularly China and India, will drive global energy demand to increase by some 50% and second; while oil’s share of the energy mix will decline, the largest growth will be in consumption of natural gas. Why? Natural gas is an outstanding fuel for power generation, gas-fired power plant has the lowest Capex…

Naval Base Point Loma Tackles Fuel Cleanup

Navy officials participated in a town hall meeting March 20 to inform Point Loma residents how the Navy plans to cleanup 500,000 to 1.5 million gallons of fuel that seeped into the ground beneath a fuel depot. Since 1999, a significant amount of JP-5 and marine diesel fuel has seeped from three steel tanks at Naval Base Point Loma (NBPL), forming a plume on top of the water table nearly 50 feet underground. The tanks are located aboveground in an area of the base designated as the Defense Fuel Support Point, which provides Defense Energy Support Center fuel to all local and surrounding military bases via pipeline networks, tankers and vessels. The fuel leaked through small holes that developed in the bottom of tanks that are more than 70 years old.

In Katrina’s Wake, Oil Surges Past $70

Hurricane Katrina swept ashore yesterday as a Category 4 hurricane, and has left untold destruction to the Gulf states of Louisian, Mississippi and Alabama. Another effect of the storm could be felt for months to come, as crude oil futures briefly touched above $70 per barrel for the first time, and natural gas futures jumped nearly 20 percent. According to an AP report, the Bush administration is considering releasing some oil from the nation's emergency petroleum stockpile to help refiners once the storm passes, though a final decision apparently has not been made. According to AP, wholesale gasoline prices in the New York and Gulf Coast markets jumped 25-35 cents a gallon on Monday following reports that about eight percent of U.S.
