Seaspan Awarded Major Joint Support Ships Contract

Seaspan Shipyards (Seaspan) has awarded L3 MAPPS a contract for work on Canada’s new Joint Support Ships (JSS).According to a press release, the award is one of several to be announced for Canadian suppliers supporting Seaspan’s work on naval supply ships under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS). This work will contribute to Seaspan fulfilling its Industrial and Technological Benefits Policy commitments.Based in Montreal, L3 MAPPS will provide the globally deployed Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) for JSS. Kalmar Launches Next Generation ASC System

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has introduced its next generation automatic stacking crane (ASC) system at the TOC Europe exhibition in Rotterdam. Featuring future-proof technology, it is the most efficient and productive ASC system ever. By enabling smooth and fast automation deployment, it allows terminals to deliver high throughput as well as a predictable and reliable performance. At the heart of the new ASC system is the Kalmar 5th generation automatic stacking crane. The crane has an optimised lightweight structure with a -10% weight reduction compared to previous generation, which decreases energy consumption and offers savings in operational costs.

Northrop Grumman Delivers UK Submarine PMS

Northrop Grumman Corporation has supplied the final batch of Platform Management System (PMS) hardware for the Royal Navy's Astute-class series' boat 5 submarine. Under a performance partnering arrangement, Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine business unit supplied the PMS to BAE Systems Maritime–Submarines for installation on Astute Boat 5, Anson, at its shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness, U.K. The PMS equipment controls and monitors the submarine's platform machinery and onboard systems. The PMS is expected to reduce life cycle costs and minimize program risk for the U.K. Ministry of Defence.

UK Submarines to Get Northrop Grumman PMS

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has been selected to supply the Platform Management System (PMS) for the Royal Navy's fifth Astute-class submarine, Anson. Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine business unit will supply the PMS for Astute Boat 5 under a performance partnering arrangement (PPA) with BAE Systems Maritime-Submarine. BAE Systems will install the PMS equipment, which controls and monitors the submarine's platform machinery and onboard systems, at its shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness, U.K. The contract also includes software, safety case, equipment and obsolescence management. The Astute-class is the Royal Navy's latest series of nuclear-powered hunter-killer submarines. Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine business unit previously supplied the PMS for Astute Boat 4, Audacious.

Northrop Grumman to Supply PMS

Northrop Grumman Corporation has been chosen to provide the Platform Management System (PMS) for the next Royal Navy Astute-Class submarine, HMS Audacious. BAE Systems has selected Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine business unit as the preferred bidder to supply the PMS for the fourth Astute-Class submarine. The PMS will control and monitor platform machinery and on-board systems. CAE Wins Korean Navy Contract

CAE has been selected to supply shipboard control systems for the fifth in a series of KDX-II class destroyers for the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN). List price for similar repeat business is approximately $C6 million. The complete system will be delivered in 2005. This contract, awarded by prime contractor Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. (DSME), marks the tenth selection of CAE's integrated platform management system (IPMS) for the ROKN. Since 2000, DSME and CAE have collaborated on two other KDX-II vessels. "The DSME shipyard and the ROKN are longstanding customers, and this contract certainly reinforces CAE's position as a key supplier," said Rashid Khan, CAE's executive vice-president for marine control systems.

Imtech Awarded Contract for MILGEM Corvette

Imtech Marine & Offshore has been awarded the contract by Turkish Defense organization SSM for the delivery of an extensive Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) for the First of Class of the New Turkish Navy MILGEM Corvette. Imtech will execute this program together with its Turkish partner YALTES and will be the first candidate to supply the same system on the remaining 11 vessels. YALTES will be the main contractor for this project while IMTECH will provide the technology and system integration. The MILGEM Corvette, from the Turkish words Milli Gemi (National Ship), has an overall length of 324 ft. With a displacement of 2,000 tons and 11.8 ft design draft, it will be fully operational up to sea state 5 and be partially operational at sea state 6.
