Statoil Launches New Subsea Concept
Norwegian oil major Statoil presented a new subsea concept that is designed to reduce cost and increase efficiency. The concept is called Cap-X. The concept was presented by Margareth Øvrum, executive vice president for technology, projects and drilling in Statoil. During the last decade subsea costs have increased significantly and the industry needs to move from tailor-made solutions to more industry standards. "Once again we aim to drive subsea technology development on the Norwegian continental shelf together with our industry partners. The potential for increased efficiency and reduced costs can make this the next standard within subsea templates," says Margareth Øvrum. Cap-X is a combination of existing and new technology.
Advent Intermodal Delivers eModal Wharfage Module for NSW Ports
NSW Ports has successfully deployed Adventâs eModal wharfage module for Port Botany in Sydney and Port Kembla in Wollongong, says Advent Intermodal Solutions, a leading provider of IT-based intermodal solutions. The wharfage solution is part of eModalâs Port Community System (PCS) solutions suite. The SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) implementation is part of NSW Portsâ comprehensive plan to transition port operations from legacy IT systems to a new IT environment where Adventâs plug ân play, SaaS-based, eModal wharfage module complements NSW Portsâ plan. NSW Ports is a privately owned company that developed the plan when in 2013 it acquired through public tender a 99-year lease to manage and develop Port Botany and the Port Kembla port assets from the NSW Government.
Further Developed Gas Engines from Liebherr

Downtime Avoided with Arc Fault Protection
When power protection is evaluated the need to consider arc fault events is often neglected. However, the risk is at a high price when it takes so little to be safe. Most people tend to think that their switchboard will be sufficiently protected by e.g. overcurrent and a short-circuit relay. While this may be true for low voltage switchboard with small current, traditional circuit protection will not be sufficient for medium and high voltage switchboards, which harness larger amounts of energy. The same applies to transformer stations, wind turbines, and diesel electric propulsion systems.

Siemens Debuts ELFA Propulsion Solution
Siemens is closing the gap between large merchant vessels and small recreational or commercial crafts traditionally powered by mechanical propulsion solutions with the introduction of one, unified platform that combines traditionally disparate on board systems. The companyâs new ELFA propulsion solution merges normally stand-alone systems (power management, motors, thruster, auxiliary generators, batteries, monitoring and control) into a truly integrated, space saving solution. By integrating communications with the power supply, the ELFA propulsion solution can considerably reduce fuel consumption and enhance range, maneuverability, availability and redundancy. As the worldâs first company to electrify a ship in 1879, Siemens has a long history in marine technology.
