Inspection Gaming App for Seafarers

The latest offering Anglo-Eastern, from the Hong Kong-based ship manager, is an educational gaming app aimed at reducing shipboard deficiencies.Launched during Hong Kong Maritime Week, “Vessel Inspector” is a gaming app that encourages players to compete against their peers towards achieving zero deficiencies. The objective is to enhance situational awareness skills in a competitive gaming environment to complement learning and amplify learning outcomes.Vessel Inspector is intended for seafarers, as well as vessel managers, marine managers and port state inspectors.

Risk Ahoy: New Game App Promotes Safety at Sea

UK P&I Club, a provider of P&I insurance and other services to the international shipping community, has launched Risk Ahoy, a new gaming app that highlights in an engaging and interactive manner the hazards face by those on board ships on a daily basis. Risk Ahoy has been developed by the loss prevention department of UK P&I Club, is available on iTunes and Google Playstore, and has been intuitively designed to allow users to dip in and out of the action, with short, medium and long modes available. Players navigate their ship through 38 colorful levels of increasingly challenging difficulty, working their way through the various mini-games, while identifying and avoiding common onboard hazards.

LR, UK P&I Club Launch Life-Saving Appliances Checklist

Lloyd's Register (LR) and the UK P&I Club have released a Life-Saving Appliances pocket checklist app to help ensure that ship personnel are trained in how to inspect, maintain and operate life-saving equipment, and that equipment is ready for use at all times. The app also includes a list of common deficiencies to help ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and help reduce the risk of port state control detentions. The full series of six pocket checklist apps, consisting of: ILO MLC, ISM & ISPS, Marine Fire Safety, Marine Pollution Prevention Port State Inspections, and now Life-Saving Appliances, are all available on iPhone, iPad and Android devices.

IMMA App Offers Access to Maritime Medical Stores

Deteriorating seafarer health and poorly-stocked onboard medical chests are major issues concerning maritime medical practitioners, which is why the International Maritime Medical Association (IMMA) has developed an App-driven Maritime Medical Stores Catalog designed to ensure that vessel owners and managers are meeting obligations when it comes to looking after the health of their crew. More than 1,500 companies have already downloaded this tool to purchase medical and health-related items needed onboard ship. IMMA’s catalog app features more than 5,000 health and well-being products, from aspirin and cough medicine to disinfectants and stretchers.

Hamburg Süd Launches Free App

Hamburg Süd has just released a free app for smartphones and tablets that is available for its customers to download. The Hamburg Süd app allows customers to access information about Track & Trace, timetables, offices and news wherever they may be. The new app was developed jointly by Hamburg Süd and the IT consultancy Capgemini. It is available for Android and iOS operating systems in both German and English, and can be downloaded to the operating device from the Google Play Store (Android) or from Apple iTunes (iOS).

BMT Launch CargoHandbook Mobile App

International design, engineering and risk management consultancy BMT Surveys, have launched a new app which will provide mobile access to its CargoHandbook database. The app is now available as a free download for both Android and iOS users in the App Store (iOS) and Play Store (Android). CargoHandbook is the world’s largest online database for cargo transportation in the marine industry. Raymarine Debuts New MFDs with WiFi

Following the launch of the a-Series multifunction displays (MFDs), Raymarine has expanded the a-Series line with the addition of two versions of the a65 and a67 complete with built-in Wi-Fi. The compact a‐Series multifunction displays offer access via Raymarine’s LightHouse user interface to navigation applications like GPS, sonar, radar and data. The expansion into Wi-Fi means that, as with Raymarine’s e‐Series and c-Series MFDs, new a-Series Wi-Fi owners will be able to use RayRemote and RayControl apps to control their a-Series Wi-Fi MFD directly from their smartphone or tablet.

Boat Beacon App, for smartphones & tablets now on Android following its success on iPhone; improves safety at sea for boaters. Mariners can now use their Android devices to keep a watch on nearby boats along busy coastlines while enabling other boatsto follow their current location using Boat Beacon Maps and Global Marine AIS systems. The Boat Beacon app, developed by a skipper for other skippers, does not require an external AIS receiver or transponder equipment and provides location tracking at a fraction of the cost of an AIS system.
