Kongsberg Kit for Italy's Submarine Rescue Ship

Siemens Supplies Propulsion for Saga Cruises Newbuild

Siemens announced it has been awarded a contract to equip the first new build cruise liner for the British based operator Saga Cruises under contract to Meyer Werft in Papenburg. The awarded package includes a SISHIP eSiPOD propulsion system as well as a power and distribution plant. This new cruise ship to be delivered in the summer of 2019 will be 236 meters long and 31.2 meters wide with a gross tonnage (GT) of 56,850 and will offer capacity of 999 passengers. The contract includes an option to equip one additional cruise liner potentially due for delivery in 2021.

Production Begins on Second Ship for Celebrity

Richard Fain, CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., is pushing the button of the plasma torch. Meyer Werft launched the production of the first steel plate for the second new giant passenger cruise vessel Celebrity Equinox for the cruise operator Celebrity Cruises (Miami). Richard Fain, CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., pushed the button of the fully automated plasma torch. The first ship of the Celebrity Solstice class – Celebrity Solstice - will be delivered to Celebrity Cruises, an affiliated company of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., in the autumn of 2008. This new and extremely energy-saving ship for Celebrity has a length overall of 315 m, is 36.8 m wide and gross tonnage of 122,000.

Podded Propulsion: A 360°

The evolution of podded propulsion systems has gained steam in recent years, as a number of notable new systems have entered the market with new options. The era of podded propulsion is here and now, and despite some technical glitches with the systems - notably faster than anticipated bearing wear - it is safe to assume that the system's popularity will only grow with experience. Rolls-Royce to Supply Podded Propulsion, Deck Machinery for QM2

Rolls-Royce has won two new contracts to supply podded propulsion systems and deck machinery for Queen Mary 2, the new luxury cruise liner to be built for Cunard Line at Alstom Chantiers de l'Atlantique in France. It has also won contracts to supply podded propulsors to three other cruise ships. The total value of these contracts is approximately $21.2 million. Dr. Saul Lanyado, president - Marine for Rolls-Royce, said: "These contracts bring the total value of equipment orders we have won in Commercial Marine so far this year to more than $241.1 million. They are also another illustration of the wide range of products we are able to offer to the cruise and ferry industry. Rolls-Royce will supply four Mermaid podded propulsion systems for Queen Mary 2, the largest ocean liner ever built.
