Bayonne Dry Dock Christens New Mobile Boat Hoist

Bayonne Dry Dock & Repair Corp held a christening ceremony on December 9 for its new mobile boat hauler, dedicated in honor of Christopher Edward Cranston, a NYPD Detective who died of a 9/11-related illness in July 2019.The late Staten Island native—a first-responder during and in the aftermath of the September 11 World Trade Center attacks—was the brother of the Bayonne, N.J. ship repair yard’s president, Mike Cranston, who said the new lift is a fitting tribute to someone who always prioritized family and service.

Container Volumes Dip at NY/NJ

The Port of New York and New Jersey experienced a 4.1% decrease in March container volume compared to March 2019, the Port Authority of NY & NJ said. March cargo volumes were 560,830 TEUs, compared to 585,098 TEUs in March 2019.Throughout the month, the seaport was fully operational and prepared to handle all vessel activity and respond to changes in volume as the regional economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic became clearer, the Port Authority said.

Port Elizabeth Hosts US Customs’ 230th Anniversary

NY/NJ Welcomes CMA CGM Theodore Roosevelt

The 14,400 TEU capacity CMA CGM Theodore Roosevelt became the largest container ship to call the port of New York and New Jersey when it arrived at the APM Terminals Elizabeth container terminal. The ultra-large container ship also established a new record as the largest vessel to pass under the raised roadbed of the Bayonne Bridge, which now gives air draft clearance to vessels of up to 18,000 TEU capacity. Until recently, container ships calling the Port of New York & New Jersey were mainly of the 5,000-8,000 TEU size class. Moose Boats Deliver Patrol Boat to NYPD

Boat designer and manufacturer in the San Francisco Bay Area, Moose Boats, said it has delivered a M2-35 Catamaran Patrol Boat to New York City Police Department’s Harbor Unit. The 35 foot all-aluminum catamaran vessel is a sister ship to NYPD’s three existing Moose Boats M2- 35 catamarans, the first of which has been in service since December 2009. The vessel will be responsible for patrol, search and rescue, recovery and dive operations in New York Harbor and the East and Hudson Rivers. Propulsion is achieved by twin Yamaha 350hp four-stroke outboards, and a Northern Lights generator powers integrated heated decks and windows as well as reverse cycle air conditioning.

Donjon Marine's Emergency Response

Donjon Marine Co. Inc. of Hillside, NJ, was mobilized from its base in Port Newark, New Jersey, to provide an emergency pumping capability in response to the devastation resulting from Hurricane Sandy. Donjon currently holds the US Navy Salvage and Related Services contract for the North Atlantic zone. The US Navy provided support to the stricken region following a request by the US Army Corps of Engineers. By mobilizing its equipment, Donjon was able to provide “soup to nuts” support to the US Navy response.

Passenger Vessel Market Looks up in NY/NJ Harbor

“Securitay, Securitay — Molinari departing Whitehall bound for St. George.” Twenty-four hours a day, in NY/NJ harbor the VHF bridge-to-bridge Channel 13 crackles a non-stop symphony of thousands of “security calls.” It is a veritable orchestration by captains of the Staten Island Ferry, dozens of water taxis crossing the North River or streaking up Buttermilk channel, tug boats and barges, container ships coming ʻround Bergen Point, sea-going palaces leaving three cruise ship terminals as well as dozens of passenger vessels, motor and sail, jostling for camera angles at the Statue of Liberty.

Port Authority Of NY and NJ to Build a Permanent Ferry Terminal

The Port Authority will build a new permanent ferry terminal in Battery Park City in response to an increase in ferry service in the New York-New Jersey region. The Board of Commissioners approved a contract with Spearin, Preston and Burrows of Staten Island, N.Y., to build a larger, more comfortable ferry terminal that will offer additional seating, an expanded waiting area, restrooms and concessions. The terminal will replace a temporary facility used by more than 7,800 weekday commuters. New York Governor George E. Pataki said, “This new ferry terminal is a linchpin in the rebuilding of Lower Manhattan’s transportation network, and part of my administration’s ambitious timetable for the rebuilding of the downtown area. Larrabee and Glass To Receive 2002

Admiral Richard Larrabee, USCG(ret.), Director of Port Commerce for the Port Authority of NY/NJ, and Alan M. presented annually by the Containerization & Intermodal Institute. Both will be honored at an industry-wide luncheon on December 12, 2002, to be held at the Marriott Hotel at Newark (NJ) Airport. Each is being honored for careers that have demonstrated leadership in efforts to further containerization and intermodalism. Rick Larrabee was appointed Deputy Director of the Port Authority of NY/NJ in early 2000, coming from his command of the First Coast Guard District. During his last assignment with the Coast Guard, Admiral Larrabee was responsible for all Coast Guard operations and programs in the Northeast U.S., from Maine to Sandy Hook, N.J.

Port Newark Container Terminal Celebrates Grand Opening

The Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT) will celebrate its official grand opening of the $175 million terminal redevelopment project at a ribbon-cutting ceremony tomorrow, September 26, 2002. The ceremony will begin at noon at the PNCT facility, located at 241 Calcutta Street in Port Newark, NJ. Joseph Assante, president of Port Newark container Terminal, will host the event and HRH Prince Andrew, The Duke of York will be guest of honor. Port Authority of NY/NJ Seeks Proposals for Red Hook Container Terminal

The Port Authority announced today that the agency is seeking proposals for maritime uses at the Red Hook Container Terminal, on Piers 9-11 in Brooklyn, to help determine the future of maritime activity on the Brooklyn waterfront. The Request For Expressions of Interest (RFEI) for the 80-acre terminal grew out of the ongoing Brooklyn Piers 6-12 Alternative Use Study, jointly conducted by the Port Authority and the New York City Economic Development Corporation. Proposals are being sought from businesses that have demonstrated experience operating marine terminal facilities and the financial capacity to undertake the obligations of a lease agreement.
