Bayonne Dry Dock & Repair Corp held a christening ceremony on December 9 for its new mobile boat hauler, dedicated in honor of Christopher Edward Cranston, a NYPD Detective who died of a 9/11-related illness in July 2019.The late Staten Island native—a first-responder during and in the aftermath of the September 11 World Trade Center attacks—was the brother of the Bayonne, N.J. ship repair yard’s president, Mike Cranston, who said the new lift is a fitting tribute to someone who always prioritized family and service.

The 14,400 TEU capacity CMA CGM Theodore Roosevelt became the largest container ship to call the port of New York and New Jersey when it arrived at the APM Terminals Elizabeth container terminal. The ultra-large container ship also established a new record as the largest vessel to pass under the raised roadbed of the Bayonne Bridge, which now gives air draft clearance to vessels of up to 18,000 TEU capacity. Boat designer and manufacturer in the San Francisco Bay Area, Moose Boats, said it has delivered a M2-35 Catamaran Patrol Boat to New York City Police Department’s Harbor Unit. The 35 foot all-aluminum catamaran vessel is a sister ship to NYPD’s three existing Moose Boats M2- 35 catamarans, the first of which has been in service since December 2009. The vessel will be responsible for patrol, search and rescue, recovery and dive operations in New York Harbor and the East and Hudson Rivers. Propulsion is achieved by twin Yamaha 350hp four-stroke outboards, and a Northern Lights generator powers integrated heated decks and windows as well as reverse cycle air conditioning.

Donjon Marine Co. Inc. of Hillside, NJ, was mobilized from its base in Port Newark, New Jersey, to provide an emergency pumping capability in response to the devastation resulting from Hurricane Sandy. Donjon currently holds the US Navy Salvage and Related Services contract for the North Atlantic zone. The US Navy provided support to the stricken region following a request by the US Army Corps of Engineers. By mobilizing its equipment, Donjon was able to provide “soup to nuts” support to the US Navy response.

The Port Authority will build a new permanent ferry terminal in Battery Park City in response to an increase in ferry service in the New York-New Jersey region. The Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT) will celebrate its official grand opening of the $175 million terminal redevelopment project at a ribbon-cutting ceremony tomorrow, September 26, 2002. The Port Authority announced today that the agency is seeking proposals for maritime uses at the Red Hook Container Terminal, on Piers 9-11 in Brooklyn, to help determine the future of maritime activity on the Brooklyn waterfront. The Request For Expressions of Interest (RFEI) for the 80-acre terminal grew out of the ongoing Brooklyn Piers 6-12 Alternative Use Study, jointly conducted by the Port Authority and the New York City Economic Development Corporation. Proposals are being sought from businesses that have demonstrated experience operating marine terminal facilities and the financial capacity to undertake the obligations of a lease agreement.
